Where are some local places that sell bicycle inner tube? Would Target, Walmart, REI, etc. have it?

All of the above if you wanna buy em.

Are you wanting some for rubber bands, or for a bike?

Just go to a bike shop, and ask em for some of the flat ones they are trashing if you want it for bands.. They tend to have alot of em on hand.

If you need one to ride on. Get a good one. The walmart ones suck IMO. I use presta valves in all my bikes now. I have contenental tubes in my mountain bike, and they are holding up well. Thinking about going tubeless when I do my disc wheelset.

I just want them for rubber bands, thanks for the info :)

Yeah, for rubber bands, just score some flat ones they are trashing. You can get em for the best price....Free!

what do you use a rubber innertube for?

uses include:
securing gear to other gear
emergency fire starter (they burn a long time even when wet)
you can also remove handles on a knife (fixed blade) put in "survival items" use inner tube band (cut to fit) to secure then wrap para cord around tube.

I made a waterproof pouch for my fire starting kit. When kayak season begins again I'll seal up that open end and put the whole thing into my PFD pocket. If I get separated from my boat I'll have my kit, at the very least. This one is for emergency use only.

That's my fire kit. Char cloth, flint and steel, 10 pieces of wax coated jute twine, and a piece of tinder fungus. Going to put a piece of inner tube around it to keep it closed. Sorry for the quality, pic was taken on my phone, while shining a flashlight at the kit to see all the items.

Hi Doc.
I used E6000..... waterproof, flexible bond, good for rubber products. Another product I considered was Devcon Rubber Adhesive but I couldn't find any here. I tried Liquid Nails Clear Silicone Home Projects and will not use it again even though recommended by LNails website. :thumbdn: I checked auto parts stores and considered Permatex but wasn't sure about it.
There are tons of products out there , lots at JoAnn Fabrics even.

E6000 available at Michaels or JoAnn Fabrics. JFab has loads of shopping coupons(50%) out right now, check in the doorway. Michaels usually in the Sunday paper if you get it. E6000 isn't expensive but why pay retail? :barf:

Sheesh... my bad....clicked the wrong button.

I turned the end inside out, cleaned off the powdery stuff and roughed up the surface a bit with sandpaper. I glued a few inches because I wanted to add the grommet... glue extends past just in case it becomes a leak point or I want to cut it off. Apply glue, squeeze tube together and place under some weight. Squeeze-out expected.. just trim. I glued another small piece of tube over the end for additional security, glued over any sharp points on the grommet too.
Getting the tin in there is a wrestling match.
I can post a close up if you want.

I get mine free at the local bike shop. They keep a pile out back. Gotta love the *ranger* band.
