I'm looking to have the grip shape modified on The Outsider. The following picture pretty much sums it up:

The actual knife in it's current state:

So far as I can see, there's no grinding, drilling or polishing on the original steel needed.

In addition to the grip mods, installation of a new snap-strap on the sheath would be nice. If at all possible, the new grip should be close enough to the original in the area circled to allow the original kydex to work. If necessary, we could steam-soften just that area to mold it to a slightly new grip shape, so absolute precision isn't necessary.

I'd like to stick with micarta, but use stainless pins versus brass because the original brass pins turned very slightly green. Or maybe new brass pins can be sealed with epoxy caps somehow?

Is all this possible? Don't post bids in this thread, EMail only. It's not my intention to start a bidding war of any sort; bids will be evaluated both on price and previous experience in micarta work on the maker's part. The first reasonable proposal will get the job.

Thanks!

Jim

It's a one-off custom based on my blueprints, built by custom maker Harald Moeller in BC, Canada. We exchanged blueprints, then plexiglass/glue mockups. The blueprints above were based on on some early original blueprints, we eventually changed the grip shape just a hair in the final plexi mockups which is why there's some slight differences.

When I settle on a maker for the mods, I'll carve a complete extension mockup in plexiglass/glue (or mebbe wood) so that it'll fit my hand perfectly.

The blade length is 9.5" from the base of the lower guard to the outer tip. Steel is ATS34 heat-treated by Harald using the Ernie Mayer/Hitachi low-temp heat-treat cycle. It's 1/4" stock. For it's size, it's got the most brutal "overhead smash" properties of anything else I've ever handled or heard of

.

Harald helped work out the "heft and balance" issues, to perfection. The grip shape change simply reflects my own development in cutlery handling.

I was curious because I had just finished grinding a blade with the same profile when i saw this. I didn't know there was anything out there even close to my design but your's is almost an exact replica. mine is better anyway

I'll post a pic when it is finished in a few days
