What would you guys pick? Need a big utility/camp that has good chooping ablity, to chop wood for shelter and firewood. And a smaller knife that can handdle other minor cutting chores.
I like the SOG tigershark coz is big 9 inch and the full tang and the guard is one piece steel. For the small one i would like the x-42 field knife. What do you think about my choice?
Knives are hard to get in my place so need to be sure what i buy.

I am getting ready to order the same stuff really. Big camp knife and small camp knife to keep on me. Once i have the money im going to buy a swamp rat knife works "camp tramp" and a "howling Rat". Im not sure how im going to wear them yet, its either going to be 2 seperate sheaths or a piggyback sheath. Swamp Rat knives sound like they are very nice knives and as a part of Busse they have a no questions asked warranty.

I like to carry a multitool in the pouch on my knives that have a pouch on the sheath. I also have an eagle utility pouch that I keep on my Timberline Zambezi with a multitool in it. I have found that the multitool, especially with a saw, compliments the fixed blade very nicely.

My big/small knife combo consists of the Swamp Rat Camp Tramp and Spyderco S30V Military PE. Because the CT sheath has a utility pocket, I also keep a Leatherman SuperTool in it, just in case.

The SOG Tigershark and the SOG Seal Pup are a natural "big/little" pair.

Hey Mac, can you get SOGs in Penang? Think the X-42 field knife is interesting.. But the textured handles can be a killa when you grip in this sucka for extended field use.. Tigershark? Well, this one's really highly rated especially in Singapore. There used to be an SOG dealer in KL. Its called Lion Archery.. The guy backed off a some 10 years back.. My fave small+big combo would be : Spyderco Military, Gunfors bruck Axe.. Well, alternatives would be a Becker Knife and Tool BK11 and BK9... :D

The SwampRat Howling Rat for a small blade and either the Camp Tramp or the Battle Rat for the larger. CT is 7" and the BR is 9". If you go to Rat Chat and do a search there are several piggyback sheaths with these combos. However, most sheath makers suggest seperate sheaths for the 2 blades. I agree, that's a lot of steel on one side. Better one on each side.

By all means, get the Rats though. I don't know of anyone else in that price range that can match the quality or the warranty.

My vote would go for a BK&T cu-7 or CU-9, or a Camp Tramp or Battle Rat for a large blade, and a Mora 2000 for the small.

Or if you're tired of thick, clunky "survival knives", as I am, and don't want to pack all that weight around.......and like Scandinavian style knives, as I do, you could go with this Puukko and Leuku Combination from Ragweed Forge.

Incredibly functional, takes and holds a great edge. Easy to sharpen. Light weight but strong (not prybars). And $97.00 in stainless steel ,for both in a double sheath. Have been working well in Finland for several hundred years. My 2 cents. YMMV

Edit: BTW, the guy who owns Ragweed is really easy to work with and you can email for a shipping quote.

Another vote for Swamp Rat Camp Tramp & Howlin Rat. However, a very wise forum member (thanks Jeff) advised me yesterday to consider a small Gransfors hatchet as a replacement for my abused Camp Tramp and there is a significant price difference. Use the savings to upgrade the small blade to a Dozier fixed blade.I will be using this combo for fall moose hunting.

Well, the Yukon is a little different climate than Malaysia, like about 100 degrees, hence different vegetation, so an ax/small knife combo makes more sense here. My pic is a 3/4 size Hudson's Bay ax and a belt knife (Bark River Woodland, Marble's Campcraft, CS Master Hunter). Plus a Leatherman. In a pinch the ax could do it all (well, practically all).

I like the SOG tigershark coz is big 9 inch and the full tang and the guard is one piece steel. For the small one i would now like the Sog revolver the one with saw. What do you think about my choice?
Anyone with 1st hand experience with these knife. And how do they fare? What are their pro and cons.
Knives are hard to get in my place so need to be sure what i buy.
