Which of the H.I. khukuris would you all describe as having big, hefty blades?

(needs to be what's available off-the-shelf)

It's easy to say the 25" AK is the beefiest...but what would you pick in the 15" to 21" range?

These are not for me...;)

The 21" Ganga Ram.:p

But it's a good thing you clarified.:D I have perhaps the biggest, beefiest, and shortest, blade ever made by HI. It hasn't been seen for a long time.:(
I suppose someone could twist my arm so much that I would take a pic of it if someone would post it. :footinmou :p ;)
A friend who likes me a lot sent it to me out of the blue one day long ago.:D
Nasty has seen it.;)

AH....the pregnant one! Yeah...it's awesome all right...you can tell it has a good appetite!

It was another I had to resist making an offer on!

I've forgotten how long the Foxy's Folly is, but man, that's beefy. My 18" AK villager is right behind.

My 15" Horn Handled Ang Khola is really beafy. 15" Long, 1/2" spine and weighs in at about 1.8 pounds. It might not be quick in the hand, but it sure does chop like a monster. Limbing trees is it's speciality. :D

My 16.5" WWII is my general purpose Khukuri, but the 15" AK gets used for the heavy limbing!:D

Fox Folly would have to be up there. Mine comes in at 21 inches and about 3.5 lbs. I also have a 20" villager AK that is 20 Inches and about the same weight.

I don't have anything from HI over 19" but within that group it is my 18" AK by Sher that has the greatest mass. It's the nearly 1/2 " spine that gives it the heft. I have an 18" BGRS by Kumar which may be my all-time favorite but it is not near as thick in the spine or as heavy as the 18" AK. I also have a 19" Hanuman by Kumar but with its' three fullers it is suprisingly light for its' size and thinner than the 18" AK. A 20" AK is on my wish list. :D

to be honest, i wouldnt even call my 26" chiruwa ang khola beefy... at 1/2, at that length, it feels... well, not thin, but not over built.

my 20" ang feels beefier then the 26, because its almost the same thickness but shorter.

probably the beefiest blade ive seen so far (besides that insane 3/4"er that i cant recall who posted... but was insane...) is gator97's 5/8" thick 20" ang khola. that thing is verging on as beefy as it gets without becoming a war maul.

its not technically off the shelf... you'd have to ask for it, and im not sure if you could get an order in currently for one like that.... if its straight off the shelf, id probably say the ganga ram...

Haven't tried the GRS yet (just when I thought I was done buying khuks... ...you pull me back in!), so my thickest is my Garud AK. And it's got a beaky little face on the handle that tells you to do things.

It's an exotic and not currently available, but the 20" Super Salyan with 8" handle and 12" blade on a 3/4 inch wide spine feels beef to me.

Also my early production 12" AK with 1/2" spine. It's not named after the pocket battleship "Graf Spee" for nothing.

Let's see, 8 inch handle... If that's the one you had at the khonvention, that's the handle diameter, right ? ;)

8" from bolster to buttcap. And yes it is the one from the convention, Josh. It only feels like it's 8" around. Yvsa's got another of the same batch, but has taken the handle down so HE could get a better grip.

Seth, this is the one you're thinking of.

But Pen asked for models in the line and available. Sorry to lead the thread away, but when you've snagged one like that ( the Super Salyans ) it's hard not to brag on it.

My Foxys Foly is the beefiest blade I own, coming in at 52oz! It is a monster and chops wood like a demon.

I'd have to go with my wood handled 17 1/4 " Ganga Ram by Bura. It's a top cut at least filet mignon or porterhouse.

Seth, are you refering to my old 25" Durba made AK with the 3/4" Spine that weighs 5 pounds? :D

I'd say that the Super Saylan had the thickest spine, next to the YCS. the Falcatta (which I take every chance to mention:D) is big in profile, but more sword-like in the spine.

I'm an 18" AK fan, and that's plenty of khuk fer most folks. Those 20-25" AKs look like overkill to me. I'd want a felling axe fer that weight.
