I am... Or, I guess, used to be an avid backpacker. Family and work obligations have really started to stack up (1.5 year old twin boys do not help things) so i don't get a lot of time for myself. In fact, it's taken me about 2 months to get the time to get this posted. Back in September I arranged a trip up to Idaho's high country to fish in a couple of alpine lakes I've been wanting to hit for a few years. One of them is the highest named lake in the state at about 10,600'.

While I don't quite qualify as an ultralight backpacker, I definitely try to keep the ounces down on a trip like this. For a long time, an Opinel No 7 has ridden in my backpack as my primary cutting tool, and while preparing for the trip I pulled it out and gave it a tuneup. While sliding the lock ring back on, it cracked in half, making it a lot less safe to use in the middle of nowhere, by myself. I contacted Opinel and wasn't able to get one from them, so I did some searching on the forums and found a post form mykel m saying he had a No 7 lock ring available if anyone wanted it - I shot him a PM and he came through with it. It arrived two days before my trip thanks to his quick shipping! Thank you very much Myke, I had a really great trip and it was awesome to have my old backpacking buddy along for the ride. I had bad weather most of the time and didn't get as many pictures of the knife as I'd have liked, but here are a few from the trip:

And of course, the guest of honor!

Thanks again Myke, I thought about you and your generosity a lot during the trip and I certainly will pass it along :D

Very cool! I enjoyed the pics.

Myke responded to my first post on the forum. I was green as could be and knew nothing of steel and was on the hunt for a deer knife. Myke set the tone for my first experience here in his patience and ability to communicate info. He helped me out a lot and I ended up getting one of my favorite knives, a Light weight hunter in 52100 by GL Drew. I never got a chance to thank him.

Thanks Myke.
