I am planning a hike in the adirondacks this summer. I had made a camper for the trip, posted it here in the gallery, and someone saw it and made me 'an offer I couldnt refuse' (said in my best Marlon Brando voice).

I needed another camper and had some steel left, probably enough for 2 knives, but I just made a forge with a back door, so I thought I would try to make 1 big knife.

Here it is. I have a feeling it will be too heavy for the trip, but I really like it.

I want to buy a case of bottled water just to do some water bottle cuts. I did one, and it sliced through like butta.

DAMMMNNNNN!!!! Let me know when you want to sell that bad boy :D
What's the handle made of?

The handle is curly maple, and whether or not I sell it depends on if you talk to me or my wife. :)

It is so large, but well balanced (balance point is just behind the front of the handle close to the first pin) that everytime I hold it, I want to chop something.

wow!!! In sword terms, that is a "hand and a half" knife. The handle is so long, you can't tell how big the knife actually is until you see it in your hand. wicked looking balde. What kind of steel did you use?

I forged it out of 5160. I thought I forged it close to the final grind, but it still took me forever at the grinder to get it where I needed it.

The handle is a two fisted handle. I have big hands and my hands just fit together. It is a monster.

Thanks, glad you all like it.

Big awesome kick ass knife like that reminds of me of Spartan movie. Well done, man your forge must be hot

Yep, that's gonna be WAY too heavy. You'd better send it to me before you hurt yourself...

Actually, if you get tired during your hike, you could use that to chop up a tree and make an Adirondack chair to rest on.

Man I love big knive, thats a great looking one. If your going to keep it maybe you should show some pics of you cutting water bottles, wood, rope etc and let us know how it fairs?

matt you havent made a knife yet ,that i have seen and didn't like!(hopefully that made sense)-thumbs up!
