WOOOOOW!
Never seen one like that from the man ever!
Thanks!

A substantial piece, by every definition.

New to you, Dan? Or giving us a holiday treat? Or both. :)

WOW!! That is EXCEPTIONAL to say the least. I had never seen it before, but would put it right at the top of favorite Morans.

That's a smatchet. I love that design for a fighting knife.

Kind of is a Smatchet, Joss.

The Smatchet was designed by W.E. Fairbairn during WWII. This rendition would be on the deluxe side of things.

Congratulations, Dan....that is easily one of the top 5 good looking Moran knives that I have ever seen.

Best Regards,

Yes, it is, however I wanted to acknowledge this substantial piece, was posting in a hurry and was sure I could spell "dagger" correctly. :o
Didn't think spell-check would be much help on "smatchet" :)

On page 67 of "Master of the Forge" by B.R. Hughes and C. Houston Price, the knife is described as a Double Edged Bowie, 16 5/8" overall, 11 5/8" blade.

Below that is the description, from Bill Moran:

"This is a very large double edged type American knife, unlike the European daggers. It has file work on the guard and the curly maple handle has silver wire inlay. The blade was forged from W-2 steel. The sheath is basswood lined with leather covering and a leather tip and throat. It is a rather unusual knife; I only made a few of these."

It looks alot like a smatchet, but that is not how it was described in the book. Whatever it is I like it.

being a huge fan of the OSS Smatchet myself and seeing the similarities only added to my desire to own this piece as i was pursuing it.
its nice to know others saw it too....
thanks

Looks like a Smatchet, but then a Smatchet has a Dagger style blade, but then if the creator calls it a Double Edge Bowie then it's hard to auger with that. So perhaps we are all right.

I don't care what's it called, I call it super cool:cool::thumbup:

Dan, you did good on this one!!
