Why do you think becker is the manufacturer with maybe the biggest emphasis on larger blades?

And why is it that now that I have the bk16, I need something larger?

Different size knives for different tasks my friend. And no matter what Becker you get, you will always want another one. Not because you need something different but because Beckers are addictive. The 16 is a great knife, pair it with a 4 or 9 and your set for anything!

Because there will always be more Beckers in your life. It is just a matter of time. You will always find a need for another Becker.

I don't, really.
You need something larger...or you want something larger? Either answer works - if you need it, you need it because there are tasks that the smaller blade doesn't manage as efficiently. If you want it, you want it; no further explanation is necessary around here - we get it. (If you are trying to explain to somebody that doesn't get it; you need to understand that most of them don't want to get it...and they are, accordingly, not particularly open to considering explanation.)

Well, with all sorts of caveats about want and need, and addiction and denial...it does feel like I NEED a larger blade now :) The 16 feels a little small in the hand, and something larger for camp seems like it would be useful. All my kitchen knives are 3" paring knives, or 8" chef knives. A camp cooking prep and odd job knife seems like a very rational "need."

The interesting part for me is that I seem to have coincidentally become aware of this need at the same time I've been introduced to becker knives. I have mostly folders, and I had previously thought my Spyderco Police was huge, but now I'm looking at 7+ inch camp knives, etc. Also interesting is that larger knives seem rarer at other manufacturers and makers, and other people feel totally fine with <4" blades.

Why do you say some people "don't want to get it?"

Because ultimately it is mostly about fun and not need. I think the BK-16 is a fantastic cost effective general user for the outdoors. If I could choose only one, that would be it because rather than just carrying it around "to look or feel cool", I actually use this knife and this size of knife the most.

The BK-7 would make a reasonable camp knife as would the BK-9. The BK-15 is a very practical "camp knife" that can be used for much the same uses as the BK-16.

Soo...BK&T has the 9, 4, 5, 3, 12, and 7 as "big" knives. Some would say that only the 9, 4, 5, and 3 actually count as "big."

They have the 2, 10, 15, 16, 17, 14, 24, 11, and 13 as "small" knives. I would say that they have about equal emphasis on "big" blades and "small" blades.
