Nothing says let me at it like a large knife and one of the biggest boys has to be the Bulldog....big,bold and sharp.
The pattern was introduced in the 1920's or 1930's with the CASE TESTED stamp in bone, stag, and various celluloid handles.And then was reintroduced as the "Bulldog" in the early 1960's with stag handles. I'm not positive of the exact year that it was reintroduced, but the 5172 Bulldog did not preview in the 1959 Case catalog but it was shown in the next catalog that came out in 1964.

Fast forward with a little help from Pepe Jalomo and shrink one of my favorite patterns to 4" closed,hand rubbed blade,stag and a taste of Texas and I have a real pocket friendly Bulldog...

I traded a few Opinels for this one. It is a 1980 10 dot. There is some blade play and gap in the liner, but still a cool knife!

Jim, That looks great. I don't have a bulldog yet but I'm waiting on Enrique Pena to start one for me. When I spoke with him recently he advised that he was making a scaled down Bulldog also. I might have to reconsider the scaled down one. It would most likely get more pocket time based upon the smaller size and they look great.

Is Pepe out of Texas?

Randy......

Yep...the Big little town of Laredo.......guess were Enrique's from ?

Jim, that's a sweet rendition of the bulldog. Pepe did a heck of a nice job with it. Congrats to you both! :thumbup:

I just picked this up, having been recently infected by the Case strain of the slip joint bug;
