Here is a knife I do not own but would like to find a little more about. I was told about this knife several months ago and it was described as a massive, crudely made Buck Bowie knife. Visions of a "Frank Buck" swirled thru my mind but after seeing it in person I know it's not that. It is massive at 16" overall length and a 10.5" long by 2.8" wide blade. It is very crudely finished, looks a little worse in person than in the pictures. I'm thinking this is a model 901 Bowie or a D-Guard Bowie. I also find reference to a Confederate D-Guard Bowie. The shape of the pommel suggests to me it was not intended to be finished with a D-Guard. Tool marks are still evident on the tang, the pommel is crudely shaped, the wood is somewhat plain, I'm thinking Walnut (?). Surely this knife is not a Custom Shop product. What is the opinion? An unfinished knife or a lunch box knife? Any other information would be helpful. Surely Buck did not make many if these big blades so I'm thinking it's significant even if poorly executed.
