I chap asked me to turn his Grandfathers huge butcher knife into a big Bowie and make a sheath for it. The blade on the butcher knife was 16 inches so I ended up with a 10 inch blade and a 5 inch Moose antler handle. Sorry for the crappy pics, the mozzies were eating me so I didn't hang around to get good pics. The dye is still drying on the sheath so still needs finishing touches. Shown with my model T hawk.

Regards

Robin

Excellent job on the Butcher knife to Bowie conversion and that Sheath Is a work of Art, And I'm really liking the War Hawk "You do some real NICE work, Thank's for sharing the picture's,

Thats nice man, I have small ontario bucher knife with a belt sheath..Good knives that can be had very affordably..Nice sheath too..

AWESOME work. These old knives show up at flea markets and yard sales for a buck or two and are a great foundation for custom re-use. How many legs does a mozzie have? And hopefully Canada will keep them............Randy

Hi folks
Just added a pic of the sheath polished up and finished, with a backdrop of Black Bear shit ;-)))) They always crap on the path ;-))

Howard, Kicking bird, thanks for your comments, I was kinda wishing I could keep the bowie.
Kentucky, I love old butcher knives, the flat grind is such a fine cutting edge. This one is scary sharp in spite of it's pitted edge. Love your hawks.
Thanks Mike, we'll have to get together again soon and bash out some sheaths and hawks.
Hey Randy, I always appreciate your comments, I admire your work very much. I buy every old butcher knife I can find, unfortunately, I think I bought them all cause I don't see them very often anymore. They make the best Nessies.
The mozzies were totally nuts last night, swarming like dreaded black flies, about 100 hitched a ride into the house with me
;-((( spent the whole damned night fighting them off. ;-) I guess it's one of the "small" issues of living in the middle of thousands of acres of bush.

Very best regards

Robin

Robin, have you tried sassafras tea for the mozzies? I didn't try it while I lived in Alaska, but it has worked well here in Colorado. You simply drink a cup in the morning and one in the evening. It takes 7-10 days to be really effective. Evidently, the mozzies do not like the smell of sassafras that is in your body. Sassafras extract can be purchased. The tea is very pleasant tasting. Give it a try and let me know what your experience is. I love living in the middle of thousands of acres of bush. I'm envious!

Thanks Howard, I'm an herbal Healing kind of guy but haven't heard of Sassafras for the mozzies, I'll give it a try, thanks bud.
I'll post some pics of the land here when I clean out my flickr acct, pretty place to live.

Best regards

Robin

I have traveled through, hunted and fished in, and enjoyed much of Canada since 1969. Can't wait for the photos!

I forgot to include this little tidbit on the war with mozzies. In Alaska and here my wife has planted marigolds around our entrances. Mozzies and rabbits do no like the odor of marigolds and stay away from them. This might help keep them out of your abode. Good luck in the war.

Mike, I'm getting close to needing leather so maybe in a week or so. I have a big show next weekend so the following week might work for me. I'll check and see if anything is on sale.

I always love seeing your work Robin. That bowie looks very authentic. I'm headed for some jungle training in the fall, I'm going to try that tea remedy as well.

Hey Edwin, was getting worried, hadn't seen you here for a while. Sadly the bowie went to the guy I made it for today ;-((
I'm normaly not a huge sized knife fan but that knife was sooooo fast and soooo sharp I wanted to keep it. Oh well, I have lots of fantastic steel on hand, i'll just make another.
Be safe Brother.

Robin

Edwood, start drinking the tea two weeks before you head for the jungle. I have friends in the south that swear by it. Be safe.

Howard

nice reuse of an old butcher knife -- and I'll have to try the sassafras tea, too.
