Hey guys,

I'm still waiting on my M9 to come through but I just thought I'd share some pics of the big choppers I do have and how they feel and compare. Ill add my impressions of the M9 when it gets here.

1.) Junglas- This knife has the best stock kydex sheath Ive ever seen. It is fairly lightweight but doesn't feel as light in hand as the TOR. The handle is huge and it has the thinnest blade of the bunch. This is a solid knife and looks very cool but is a bit thin for my liking. I think .25 or .28 would be the ideal thickness for a knife this size. Overall very solid and the sheath is fantastic. It is very handle heavy.

2.) Fallkniven TOR- The most expensive of the bunch by a longshot. The sheath is simply fantastic. The leather work is seriously on par with custom makers like Chuddy Bear. I am amazed at the quality. I'm generally a kydex guy but kydex just wouldn't look right with this one. Of the 3 this is the lightest in hand and the most well balanced. In my option it also has the most comfortable handle. The stacked leather handle feels fantastic and the shape makes it ideal for utility purposes whereas the dogfathers handle is made purely for chopping. I'm diggin the convex edge but isn't as sharp as advertised; I'm sure a good strop would get it there. This is the perfect big traditional style bowie. The only thing I don't like is the aluminum butt cap. It feels cheap. They should have gone with a 420 butt cap. Of the three this is the best utility blade, it also feels like it would make a great chopper. Not to mention it is the most beautiful.

3.) Dogfather- What do I need to say? This knife is big, ugly, heavy and gets the job done :) This is the only one I have used in the field and it performs like a champ. Also contrary to popular belief SR 77 gets scary sharp and the forum member who sold it to me put a wicked edge on it that has been easy to maintain with high grit sand paper and stropping. Again this is the only one Ive used but I can tell you it is going to be the best chopper of the 3 with its .285 blade and front heavy design. I love this thing. However its more a dedicated chopper than a utility knife. Very heavy.

So to conclude I think the Dogfather is the one I would trust my life with. The TOR is the most beautiful, most well balanced and has the best blade shape for utility and the Junglas is badass but too thin for my liking. Also the handle is too large and it is very handle heavy. But I haven't used it in the field so perhaps I would like the aspects that I perceive as flaws in real application.

Also for the price the dogfather and Junglas are much better values. The TOR is over twice the price of either. But then again this kind of beauty and quality isn't found in many knives outside customs. I don't think there is a more beautiful bowie on the production market today.

they all need some dirt on them but Its hard to bring myself to use them! I think Ill make my M9 the user when I get her.

Yeah i need to get out and use them! But I can kind of tell at this point how something is going to chop based on its balance etc.. I think the junglas was intended to be more a a bushwhacker type blade.

Update,

Just got my M9. Holy toledo batman this thing is amazing! Balance, handle, thickness I think this is the perfect bowie!!! I'll put it to use soon and get some pics up.

Nice comparison Kalel, for also owning those 3 knives and for using them alot I can tell you that the TOR ain't a good chopper at all, and the main reason is the handle. The round shape of it make it unstable and in twist in your hand just like my Kershaw Outcast. But I love to look at this beast and mine is scary sharp...:) still it's great overall knife!!!!

I noticed how slick the handle was today when I was handling it. I may trade it for a busse or another rat. There's no way I'll ever use it, especially when I have an M9 and dogfather to share a similar role. It sure is beautiful though.

Good lookin knives you got there. I absolutely love my M9. I saw that you snagged that Dogfather the other day for a killer price, glad to see it up here so soon. Enjoy!

I don't have the Junglas, but did have the previous incarnation RTAK1 and 2. I had the Tor and still have the Dog Father.

As others have said, the Junglas was meant for brush work, not exactly a decicated chopper. But could still be used as one if needed.

The Tor, while beautiful, always worried me with the smooth handle. Unless I was using it in the rain or PROFUSE amount of sweat on my hand...it always felt as though it would slip. I really didn't care for the distal taper on the tip.....I would NEVER use it to dig or pry anything.

The DF is the only one to remain. All action none of the looks. I would not hesitate to bring it into any situation.

Great Knives and photos...

I do more chopping than just about anyone you will meet.

You can not tell how well a knife will chop by holding it in your hand.Nor can you tell how comfortable it will be "AFTER" 20 chops.

Some knives Feel GREAT in hand but hurt after chopping for a very short time.

And some knives that feel like they should chop well while your chopping air-do not chop well at all.

You gotta test each one--on different mediums(Hardwoods,Softwoods,Food, etc) to see what each one is best at--in your hand.

My results might be 100% identical to yours--or not anywhere close.

Test each one--and let us know ..

You have GREAT taste in knives BTW

That sucks you had this issue with your Outcast. That has been my favorite by far. The Dog Father is a beast though!!

Gotta' admit, I'd take the Fallkniven. It's just so damn pretty, but Fallknivens are wolves in sheep's clothing. Easily some of the best production stainless fixed blades around. A little pricey now, though (I only paid $110.00 for my solid VG10 A1 back in, 1997 or 1998...can't remember the year exactly).
