Hey guys, I need a all around knife that can do batoning, chopping and if I need to, some carving

Blade length around 9-12 inches (to fit in a backpack)
Weight under 2lbs at least
Good sheath (kydex or nylon with kydex insert)
Under $150
Pairs well with a izula 2 (piggyback sheath carry)

And if I need to.....(let's hope not:)) killing zombies :D

I use a mora leku with my izula II

I dont carry piggy back tho

Maybe what you need is a hatchet to go with your small knife, a hatchet will out preform any knife pound for pound. If you don't like hatchets, then maybe short machete?

Is you like ESEE. Then the obvious answer to your question is the Junglas.

BK-9. You cant believe how well it chops. Just a smidge less than the Junglas yet about half the price.

I have to recommend the BK9. Only because I've used one and haven't used a Junglas though. Even so, if you can get a BK9 for half the price of the junglas, it certainly seems like the better choice to me!

When you get out to use them, we want pics! (We always want pics!)

If you go with the BK9 i would suggest getting some custom grips for it. G10 or micarta would be a better option than the stock grivory scales. The grivory doesn't seem to absorb as much vibrations when chopping or. batoning imo. They do repel liquids great and aren't really as slippery as i expected. The grivory will work adequately, especially if you're on a budget.

ESEE Junglas is worth the money for sure, no doubt. I love that thing, it takes a massive beating and barely shows it. I particularly love the sheath it comes with, which is the best non-custom sheath I've owned for any knife. For what you get, it's majorly underpriced in my opinion.

All of the suggestions you've gotten are good ones. I personally think a hatchet or a machete will be a better bet for you. Could be lighter as well. Another option if you don't care about weight is to look at a small kuk. I had a 9 inch blade from HI and it chopped with authority.

I agree, go with a hatchet/small axe. They are versatile and a knife isn't meant for chopping (although some are designed to and by people's opinions of them they must do well enough).

I'll have a tops machete .230 I'm just wondering that if I lose the machete or leave it at home which one will chop better esee 5 or esee 6

JUNGLAS JUNGLAS JUNDLAS..... oh and did i mention junglas? I've been thumping on mine for two years of hard use... She's taken it like a champ, and the warranty and quality definitely justifies the price.

Might I add that the Ontario Night Stalker 9 is a superb chopper? Great for batoning, hacking dead limbs, logs, and anything else you throw at it.

BK9. If the handles seem too slippery and you don't want to spring for aftermarket ones, just wrap some grip tape around them and they will work fine.
