most attention lately has been focused on new smaller patterns. i just wanted to remind members of the real cutters, all pioneers in 4.5 in. except west trap in 3.75. i would like to see the pioneer in cocobolo & ebony.---dennis

As usual, excellent showing. That brimstone bone looks great and they'd do well to offer it on their smaller knives, IMO.

A beautiful show, Dennis.

Thank you Dennis,

I just stumbled and happened back here.

I had forgotten this great show.

That 4.5" Stag Pioneer is a solid large Cutter.

I appreciate your reminder.

Those are some real droolers right there! These are ones that I have been considering lately.. Any opinions on the linerlock that peeks out? Too much hindarance?

There are many more qualified to answer your excellent question, but I will give you my take, subject to correction by more experienced and knowledgeable BF contributors.

The tab on the #23 GEC is similar to the tab on the USA Schrade 194OT.

The handle on the stag GEC Pioneer is very large. I do not think the tab is a hinderance in the way the sheepsfoot might be considered on Stockman knives.

The #23 is a large knife and has one of the stiffer GEC pulls/locks. They would have to make a deep cut in the handle for the lock release if they did not use the tab. Even with the tab, the lock is very stiff on closing.

Another great set Dennis. I just got my first #23 the other day. I knew it was bigger but wow. I guess I didn't pay enough attention to the difference between the #48 and the others. Its bigger... but I like it:cool:

one of my favorite knives from GEC is a Northfield Genuine stag 23. I love that knife. Great selection Dennis, thanks for the pictures.

Man, you get some of the best stag I've ever seen. Absolutely beautiful knives.

Oh... the buff horn ain't bad either... ;)

my opinion is similar to reader 1 in handle feel with the 23 & liner lock tab. having gutted & skinned whitetail along with ranch tasks ,plus tons of cardboard i never noticed the locker tab. i've found extensive cutting of double thick cardboard to be a real task for many folders. thanks for all the input guys.--dennis

Big boys all right!, I havent handled the larger, G.E.C's, I have others like the Old timer 250T, which would be slightly bigger, the Schatt and Morgan swaybelly trapper thats 4 & 1/8" closed, so Im guessing the only thing I have close is the S&M...and its a big knife!!
Great to see your usual line up of impressive G.E.C's Dennis :thumbup:

Don't know about the 23 (fine big 'un for sure but too large for my small paw)but the 73's linerlock tab has never interfered with my grip, become a nuisance or bothered me at all. GEC do a fine linerlock medium and large I'm convinced. These pictures show why.
