BIG d guarded fighter WIP

here's the latest order im working on its going to be about a 10 inch blade and almost 2 inches wide with a mean D guard with spikes! This is going to be a fun build the steel is 5160 in this set im forging to shape and you can see that its just about 18 inches OAL

i'll be keeping a close eye on this one! can't wait to see how it turns out.
 
profiled,ground and hardend but sadly it warped just a bit in the quench....so time for some old school bladesmithing tricks stay tuned and ill show you all how i make it true

first get a container big enough for the blade to fit into then fill it with sand and water put the blade edge down in the sand then heat the spine with a torch...the sand and water will act as a heat sink and keep you from losing your hardend edge...you can also soft back draw your knives like this....

ok here she is final hand sand and profiled to the final shape....im on vacation this week so im hoping i can get this one done in the next few days....next up the big forging of the D guard

The blade is looking real clean. I like how this one is shaping up!

eta - can't wait to see how the guard is going to turn out.

I can't wait to see the rest of this. Thanks for posting this WIP. Where are you in Ohio Lon? I'm originally from Bellevue, Ohio and will be returning there for a while in December.

im about a hour east of columbus in Newark

ok ive got the other edge ground in and polished the D guard is forged and now for the real fun part of fitting the guard to the knife!

ok so i wasent happy with the first guard so i made another one....and that one didnt look right either so i made one today and this one i like!:thumbup:

i made a vid of me doing the forging part so check that out too

Really starting to take shape....Its going to be a Beauty...
 
thanks guys im really liking this knife! its still blade heavy at this point but i still have to put the spikes on it and a skull crusher so im guessing it will be just about perfect when im done here is the handle and guard dry fit togather and of course i need to go back and freshin up the hand sand
