Great job on that one, nice lines and nice fit and finish, great over all package. Well done. Moon.

Very nice. Not my favorite handle design as I like a little something preventing the hand from sliding up into the blade but still, good knife.

What tool/machine did you use to cut the wood and the micarta(?) so that they match perfectly?

That's my question too. Can you show us what you are doing there?

Thanks guys. I'm happy you like it.

For the handle I use a Deckel GK21 pantograph. Once you figured out the kinks and how to make good templates to work with, it's a blast. Has to be the most fun machine in my entire workshop (closely followed by my power hammer ;) ). If I don't forget I'll do a little WIP when I'll do the next composite handle.

That sounds expensive. Could the same results be done using a router that follows a certain pattern, in the case of the knife a wave curve?
I ask because i have a router and would love to be able to do what you have done. Maybe add small pieces of scrap from stabilized handle wood. THat way I don't have to throw away good wood that can't make up much of a handle. Heck I would even be happy if I could have small holes in a handle material that I could fill with wood pieces. THough it would be hard to router a 1/2 inch or smaller circle.

I don't know how well the router would work on micarta or g-10 though...

I suppose if you make a female and male pattern which is strong enough to support/guide the router you could give it a shot. Though you're more than likely to end up with a visible seam where the two materials meet.

Here's a shot from the other side of the blade, in case anyone was wondering :).

I will have to try with some scrap wood to see how well the edges meet.
I suspect the hardest part would be to compensate for the material taken out by the saw used to cut the guide pieces..
Maybe it would be best to just send off some materials to a knife maker (like you) who can do that sort of thing and have them make that sort of cut. Is that a service you do? Maybe I can find someone where I live with some type of similar machine.
Thanks!
