Big folder recomendations

I like big folders. I have several good folders less than 3.5" and they are all about to become my son's knives. Well, almost all. I'll keep a few for sentimental sake, and a couple for idiotic outta state laws, but I don't carry them unless I have to. To me, 3.5"~4+" is what I prefer for EDC but I want one (ha!) larger for weekend carry. I'm leaning toward the Cuda Maxx clip point. I like titanium alot in certain uses, and I think I'd love D2, but it might be too big. I don't want to spend more than that, nor get anything less in function, fit and finish. What do you have personal experience with that is 4+" that you would recommend? Indestructable is good, I'm hard on knives. Thanks

Since you would like to stay in that price range, the Camillus Madd Maxx is a great choice. I love mine. I really have always wanted one of the stelleto versions but find my bowie bladed one to be a great user. Fit and finish and blade centering on mine are all perfect. The D-2 takes and keeps a wonderful edge. My only advice on D-2 blades is you will want to take a little more care against corrosion than some of the more stainless blades. Tuff Cloth works great to keep any spots at bay. It may be worse with me as my sweat seems more corrosive than some peoples.  It is a great knife to carry. It sits nice and low in the pocket and is thin enough to go unnoticed as you carry it. You would be hard pressed to find more knife for the money!

If you want big (but at not a big price), you might want to take a look at the Cold Steel Vaquero Grande and the X2 Voyager. They both have 6 inch-long blades. I have a Vaquero Grande, and an X2 on the way, and I can say that the Cold Steel folders are pretty good ones.

If you want big check out the soon to be released Gibbs model 7.0 Madd maxx. It comes with a 7 1/8 inch blade and is 15 inches overall.
Good Collecting !

I'll second the CS VG. Especially as a winter carry in an environment were your attacker may be heavily clothed. If you shop around you can buy them for way less than the MSRP.

Extrema Ratio's MPC folder's really nice in the 4"+ range. :)

The Nemesis too!

Bloody solid knives.

I'm with ArchAngel on this one. The Camillus CUDA Maxx Bowie is an uncompromising knife. It offers high-end materials, quality manufacture, outstanding toughness, and broad versatility, all in a package that carries comfortably. I've carried most of the other production knives over 4" (Fairbairn, Vaquero Grande, Sifu, etc.) and this is the first that has left me with no reservations. Think of it as a supersized Sebenza and you won't be too far off. :)

I've carried my Maxx every day for almost a year-and-a-half know. It has never let me down.

Thanks. I'm leaning heavily toward the Maxx. I like the Vaqueros too, but the Maxx is working on me...The problem is I would break the barrier($100), and it seems to be an affliction at that point. But, I do have a built in leash. No, not the wife, but the fact I actually work for a living. What the hell, ya gotta get off the chain ever once ina while!:D

I have two big folders that I like very much. The first is a SOG Pentagon Elite II with a 5" blade. The second is a Cuda Maxx with a 5.5" blade. They both make great defense knives although I think the SOG would be better for a working knife and the Maxx makes a great meat carving knife.

The Maxx goes for $130 non serrated and the PE II goes for $79.

Despite its good looks I have found the Maxx to be a very effective working knife. :)

stich, I think that if you want an "indestructable" (really, no such thing) folder, you're probably going to have to pay more than $150. If you intend to "hard use" your knife perhaps you should be looking for a concealable fixed blade that is 1/4" thick.

If a folder is a must, check out the Extrema Ratio folders (1/4" thick blades) and slightly lower in price than the Striders. TOPS is another maker of stout folders that you might meet your needs. Alternatively, you could save up your dimes and nickels (although you'll probably need more than that) and wait for the mythical Busse folder. I hope this helps.

Edit: Oops, the Cuda Maxx is a nice big folder which I like alot but I see it's blade as a tool for fine slicing and cutting--not for chopping bone, brush clearing or other "hard" use.
