I'm looking for suggestions for a 'big' folder. No, not cold steel pocket swords. But something similar to the 710, only I'm looking for near 50/50 blade handle ratio. Suggestions guys? I know It's hard to do, But the 710 gives the illusion that the blade is bigger than the handle so I know it can be done!

Thanks,
Ss

How much do you want to spend? What do you already have in the 4" blade range?

BM 710 is a winner. Spyderco Resilience has a near 1:1 blade to handle ratio and is in the economy class. The Spyderco Police 3, in G-10 is a nice one too, blade's almost as long as the handle. :)

I love megafolders.

I don't have anything in the 4" range :(

I want a 710 I just wanted to know what else was out there. My price range all depends on how bad I want it

Cant go wrong with the military, but the handle blade ratio might be off for what your looking for...its a wonderful knife though

Military, great steel, great handle
or on the cheap side Cold Steel American Lawman...toughest folder I have ever used! Strongest lock also!

The biggest and strongest folder I have is a SOG Tomcat. This knife locks up tight and there is no play in the blade even before it is locked. Depending where you live though might be a problem because it can definately be considered a "gravity knife". When I first got the knife the pivot screw was tightened so there was almost no resistance when opening the blade. Even when it was that loose there was NO play in the blade. I tightened it up some and still I can hold the handle and flick the blade open with ease without touching the blade or thumb screw. It has a VG-10 blade with a slight re-curve. I really like this knife. The handle has krayton scales and fits very well in my hand.

You check out that SOG Fatcat? Huge ain't it? It looks good too. Awfully expensive though. SOG has a lot of haters here too. I'm one, I bought 3 cheapo's and sent them back to Amazon. :thumbdn:

These big folders like the Tomcat and Fatcat remind me of CS's top of the line stuff, which is much different from the basic stuff. Much nicer.

Dude if you are looking for a big folder you should go with either the Tomcat or the Vulcan Tanto. while spyderco makes incredible mid sized folders, large folders is where sog really excels. I got a CF tomcat a few days ago and the thing is incredible, smooth as butter, solid lockup and built like a tank. But if you are looking for a cheaper knife that is every bit as good get the Vulcan Tanto!!!! The thing is just a beast, thick, thick blade stock with fantastic grind lines. IT also has the smoothest opening and closing Ive ever seen on a knife. Seriously it is probably considered a gravity knife but you whip the thing open with the flick of the wrist. It is smoother and more fluid than my manix 2 cts-xhp and CF tomcat. and the blade is HUGE and THICK. while the 710 is a great knife that Im looking at myself, if you want a huge tough folder at a good price point you should get the Vulcan Tanto. Also ZT makes great knives but they are complete clunkers compared to the vulcan or tomcat.

Good luck with you choice! get something that works for you!

I'll go ahead and suggest a clunker;), the ZT0200. Ken onion design, sexy with all the curves, tough as nails with the HD construction. Fits the hand like it was made for it.......well actually it is made to fit your hand, but it feels like it was made to fit YOUR hand.:D Not sure of the handle/blade ratio though.
