Big Freakin' Hammer and an Unknown

Went to the local "Old Stuff" store this afternoon looking for a big sledge to use as a makeshift anvil. Found this. I don't know the weight, but that's a 10 pounder sitting next to it .

Anyway, I have a question. I saw this thing and had no idea what exactly it was. The guy said I could have it for free and I'm not one to pass on free things, so ...

Anybody know what this is exactly. I think I know, but .

It may be a shoemakers lapping anvil. I'm not sure as it is not exactly same shape though..

Aha. I thought it was some kind of shoe related item, just couldn't figure out it's exact purpose.

Now I just need to open a shoe tacking business and I'll be good to go.

Very rare tool it was designed by John Crapper to test toilet boles. HEHE
