Big hitters?

I feel like there's a certain few or several knives/makers that just seem to be widely accepted as the bees knees. The Sebenza for example, pick your poison as to which one and include the Inkosi in there too. What are some others that you would say every serious knife owner/carrier/ collector should at least check out?

Maybe Shirogorov?
Hinderer perhaps?

Both those brands have quite a good rep. I am very sparing with the framelocks, as the Titanium-M390-futuritsic look isn't always my bag, even when made with quality materials, sometimes it looks "slapped on" the best knives to me.... I like the look of the Mnandi, and some Hinderers. These guys are miles ahead of Strider or the high-end Chinese guys, aesthetically purely.

Are you asking for specifically high end folders, or any worthwhile knife?

Spyderco's comp lock is a must try, and American backlocks from them feel great. Also, an XL Cold Steel of quality. Espada, Voyager, Rajah, Ti Lite, take your pick. Bound to have a good time. Find some XHP if you can. Wave dat bih.

Not sure if you want to confine the range of answers to high end knives, but if it’s pretty open, I might say the PM2? After lots of lurking and research here on the forum, it was my first “real” knife purchase because the consensus here seemed to be that it was an iconic knife model.

This question typically breaks down into a bunch of people just mentioning knives they like.
What do you consider a "serious" knife person? Does the guy that buys a knife he likes and carries it daily for years count? What about the person that owns 20+ sub$50 knives? Is there a specific price range about which you are asking, or a budget limitation? Are you asking about usability; or is this about status/bragging rights/Instagram photos?

I can acknowledge CRKs as good knives; but I'm one of the people that just isn't thrilled with them. I've tried to like them (and have bought at least 10 over the years in that process); I just haven't been very successful.
I'd much rather carry a Hinderer - the XM18 and MP1 just feel better in my hand...but even those have never made it to regular carry status for me.
Shiro? I was curious for a while before I decided I was over flippers.

Agree with hhmoore hhmoore - we need more specifics .... don’t own a CRK, but love to carry my Hinderers, Spydercos or Bucks. I wouldn’t mind carrying a 110 auto for months if I had to, yet, nobody here will mention it as a big hitter, I’m sure.

I like Chaves, vero, CRK,spydies, protech, microtech. But also have a buck 110 in s30v that I carry occasionally. The QC of CRK, Vero, and Chaves is unmatched IMO

I like the quality of CRK, Hinderers, and Striders. My favorite user is the Strider PT. A great barebones knife. But I now prefer non-framelocks I general. And for really nice knives I love William Henry's, which are mainly button locks.

Im still trying to figure this out on my journey.

Buy whatever grips your nuts the tightest. The status quo of "what every serious collector needs to have" just.. buy what you like.

Used to be Strider and Emerson. Now more Hinderer and Spartan. CRK has always been a constant.

I've carried an Emerson for 20+ years. I imagine I'll die with one in my pocket.

Spyderco and Benchmade are probably the most common.

I'm going to throw some different choices out there, because I can.

Emerson. Not for everybody, but once you understand what Ernest and Co. are trying to do, it makes sense. In a way, Emerson knives are sitting in the same row as Chris Reeve's, but they're more likely to play a game of bloody knuckles to settle things up.

TOPS Knives. They've been backing away from the High Speed Oper8tor motif, and moving their brand toward "outdoor adventure" knives. Think less tactical coatings and sawteeth, more high grinds and "warm" colors. Sure, they use "basic" steels, but their quality control is right on. When it isn't, they make it right.

Fallkniven, Condor, ESEE. Ka-Bar, Ontario, and Becker, who I consider philosophically seperate from Ka-bar. Semantics. Semiotics? Words are hard.
