So a friend of mine brought me this big hunk of black canvas micarta from a local yard sale. Now, what do I do with it? I'm thinking some crosscut scales but I know you don't run across a piece this size every day. Anything other ways I should be thinking about using it?
Size is 1.83" (side cut) x 2.5" (top) x 10.25" (long)

full

I would cut it in half to two 5.75" blocks. Cut these in half into 1.25" wide blocks. Slab one of those parallel to the top as 1/4" slabs. These would be good for smaller handles.
You could cut the second one into side cut slabs for wider handles.

(While it looks neat, I never liked side cut Micarta. Can't say why, but it just doesn't appeal to me)

I went to my scrap dealer one time and he had a big stack of black canvas micarta in 2" and 2.5" thickness. I bought a 1X2 foot sheet for $10. There were probably 20 more sheets, some as big as 2X4 feet. I went back the next weekend to buy all the rest and it was gone. The scrap guy said the next fellow in after me bought it all for $100. He said he was going to cover all his workbenches with it.
