Have tried for 4 months to kick the big knife habit -have given in and recognized that for my use - a largish folder (-4" blade/ around 5" handle) is the best tool for my use. I would bet somebody else has already figured this out -but I finally realized I could carry a biger knife securily and at least somewhat discrettly. My daily atire in terms of pants for the last few years have been Wrangler Jeans - about a 4" deep watch pocket is where I stashed my knife -cliped to pocket. This left 1.5 to 2" sticking out - not discrete and not always secure.
What finally occured to me is that the only thing I was using this pocket for was to store my knife when i wasn't using it. Borrowed SWMBO's seam ripper and riped the bottom 2" just to left of the right vertical seam out of this pocket. Can now easily cary a 5" folded knife -only the black clip and the top 1/2" of the handles sticks out. Very secure carry - knife stays in place even when crawling around under floors or over ceilings-.easily accesed -just slide your trigerfinger along the outside of the clip as you slide it back in and the clip won't close your pants pocket for you.Comfortable as long as you have not been a little too fond of the beer and donuts.
What do you need : I'd recomend the Dritz 640 Curved Blade Seam Ripper ( think of it as a really small fixed blade knife) and Dritz 674 Fray Check Liquid Seam Sealant - you need the seam sealant or other wise a few clothes washings later your watch pocket will un-ravel .
Again -I'll bet somebody has already posted this somewhere - but I didn't notice it and this hits the cheap and easy target dead on.BTW -add one of STR's low rider clips to this rig and even a big knife would be very close to dissapearing.

Sorry about the spelling ( the Nuns were right).
