Hi

I am aware of the big debate.

My problem with the big knife is the pain of sharpening a 9 or 10 inch blade to shaving sharp. The hatchet is easier to sharpen if you are opsessed with having to have a hair poping edge on all your edges.

Is it the case or is it a non issue for you?

different strokes for different folks. I find sharpening my "long" knives relaxing. my axe just gets a kiss from the grinder my knives get spa quality massage lol

Sharpening for me doesn't matter much. As long as I touch up the edge after each day, it never needs a serious sharpening anyway.

I'm with you. I find sharpening a hatchet like object to be a lot easier and my results seem to be a lot better. I think it's the length of edge combined with a softer temper. That being said a large chopper also doesn't really work as well as a hatchet for what I use a blade for so it's a win win.:D

I like to sharpen stuff , size of blade doesnt matter that much to me , multi grinds and over thunk multi function type blades or just serrations tho , I refuse to cos they are honnestly beyond my abilities

Between a big knife and a hatchet , sharpening doesnt have a impact on my choice , tho I will thin down the grind on a hatchet so it will do knife chores better , and Ill make a bigger blade with a reasonable convex to handle hatchet duty better ...

I can do equally good curlies and fuz sticks with my hatchet as my knife
