I own a Military G-10 and love the knife. Now I want another big knife, so I'm looking at the Police G-10. Do you think this is the way to go or is there another big knife in the Spyderco line up worth looking at? I want a folder.

Ed Schempp's Barong is about the same size as the Military; also linerlock, full flat grind, dual steel liners, G-10 scale, top notch ergonomics. Highly recommended.

the barong has full liners, but less cutting edge (it may need to visit the "Krein facility" ;))

the Police 3 is also a good choice, you can find some good side-by-side pics here

Barong is a good choice. However, it has been discontinued. You may be able to find it still at certain places.

Police is definitely a great choice if you want a "big" knife.

I like Ed Schempp's Barong & Kukri both  Actually I like all of Ed Schempp's designs thus far. But one big Knife that Spyderco put on the back burner some time back is the BISON model. I got to check one out at the 2004 Spirit Of Steel Knife show in Dallas TX. To me it was the quintescential outdoor big blade folder. I would love to have one in my hunting fishing footlocker and to use on any big cutting chores. Oh I love my fixed blades so don't get me wrong >> but there is definitely a market for a really big outdoor folder. I sure hope we'll see the BISON or maybe a blade like it in the line up some day.

But Ed Schempp's 2 bad-boy folders ain't bad either. Although I do believe that the BISON would sport a gut-hook better than those models would. Just my opinion.

It's also high time we got another fishing folder back in the line up again. A Catcherman or something similar in H-1 or VG-10 would do the trick.

I would recommend the Manix 95mm, if you can find one. Probably the most sturdy built, heavy duty, large Spyderco I have ever witnessed. Another one would be the Chinook, it you are into the blade shape. It's a large sturdy built spydie also.

Man i wish they would reintroduce the full size Manix. My favorite folder.

I have a Millie and my bro has a Police 3. I don't like it as much.

It's heavier, I don't like the lack of belly in a blade as it makes cuts against a surface difficult, and the G-10 didn't seem nearly as grippy (it was new). Plus the jimping on the choil was very aggressive and when it hit my index finger after unlocking it to close I kept thinking I had hit the blade against my finger. I also think the Millie's handle is more ergonomic, with its size being well utilized with many ergonomic curves whereas the Police is pretty flat.

I'm being very nit-picky here, but you can decide if any of that would bother you. It's a great knife and my brother is extremely happy, but I don't have any desire for one.

Between the Barong and Police, I'd say get the Barong while you can. I'm sure you'd easily be able to trade for a Police when they become harder to find if you don't like it.

You might find the new Szabo prototype interesting. It's supposed to be very large and have the compression lock.

I picked up a Police 3 and fell in love. Thanks for all the input. This knife is just perfect for me, exactly what I was looking for. My Manix with Carpenter Steel is on it's way too. Once again Thanks.

I carry a Military on Duty and for the past two weeks, I carry the Police 3 off Duty.
