some friends of mine met with me last friday and one of them handed out this patch

big%20knives%20big%20fun.jpg

we sat in some fancy cafe and every body had his knives on the table, mostly tactical stuff... some jokes went my way because of my Case SBJ, tiny toy knife and so on... but as I found out, I don't need some big tactical chunk of knife to do 99% of my chores

the next day I went to my favorite knife shop, and bought a knife very similar in size to the Case Peanut from Boker... it did whittle all day, did cut the sticks for the kids in the woods and was very easy to carry

I am all in, when it comes to small pocket knives

I totally agree with your point of view but I'm kind of down with the patch that says "To Each His Own". (So much less friction that way. ;))

That little Boker looks sweet.

That's a nice little Boker.

I like knives in the 3 to 3 3/4 inch size.

But I must admit........I do like that patch!

That's a beautiful little Boker. I'd give it a thumbs up, but I can't find where they his the thumbs up and smilies. What are those scales, polished bone? Very nice.

I guess each to their own, but I find a 2 inch blade is enough for what I do day to day. I'm at a stage of life where I don't have any illusions or Walter Mitty thoughts floating around.

Well, it's a beautiful little knife, no matter what the scales are.:)
See? I found the smilies.

To me, they're all fun :). There's no doubt thin blades cut so much easier. Some of my toughest cutting jobs fall to my smallest blades. I do enjoy a good sized handle though- just less fatigue.

Like the previous posters have stated all knives are fun but theres just something about slipjoints compared to tactical stuff out there and I've found my sodbuster JR. to be one of the most enjoyable knives I own but it isn't the size of the tool it's how sharp it is.

I've been hung up on my Sod jr lately, too. And smaller knives in general.

small slippies are adequate for many tasks but older kats as myself with arthritus need a larger handle to hold on to. small knives are great but big cuts are not.--dennis

on the hic sunt leones forums we often talked and discussed about large vs small/short and even at the "meets" we had we discussed and had tests

my favourite size is 4" blade for fixed knives and 3,5"-4" closed for folders, traditional or not but if I think edc then that's it, not more than 4"
Own some larger ones (fantoni HB01 and zt0301) but they're mostly just to have or for show, the real utility is a controllable blade and to me that is on the shortish side
so I'm on your side, "normal" knives are indeed better and cut better, don't have a penut yet but one is incoming so I'll tell you my feeling asap it arrives

cheers
Maxx

I have a mini stockman on my desk, but for carrying I usually go for a larger knife or a small fixed blade.

3 7/8" closed is my favorite size. Large enough to hold onto comfortably. Small enough to carry in my pants pocket comfortably.

I don't know if that counts as small.
I do know that it is what I prefer.

I carry everything from 3-3/8 to 4-1/2 inches, but the 3-7/8 is my favorite as well. Carried my Bulldog trapper today that exact length.

I do like that patch a whole lot. I have been carrying my peanut a bit lately though...

I guess each to their own, but I find a 2 inch blade is enough for what I do day to day. I'm at a stage of life where I don't have any illusions or Walter Mitty thoughts floating around.

A 2" blade may be adequate for most tasks, but the problem is that those small blades tend to have correspondingly small handles. A knife less than 3 1/2" closed may be easier to carry, but I don't find them very comfortable to use.

I like allot of diferent sized slip joints, But mainly 3-1/2 - 4 are the best
for me! I'm thinking of trying one about 4-1/2 to see what it's like?

I don't like that patch at all. :D

Them boys just don't understand Old School tactical in the traditional manner. ;) Like the patch shows.

You can bet it's a small to medium small slippie I'm packing all the time though. That's a pretty little Boker whatever the scales may be. No exceptions need be made for it.

Well I do carry a Tenacious since it was easy to swap to lefty carry and the spider on the pocket clip starts up lots of conversations. All its ever cut is cheese actually. :D

But the other pocket totes a three inch or under stockman which I prefer, why who knows. I'm picking through a couple peanuts to add to the collection soon btw.The usual carry in small stockmans is a Winchester Yellow Boy that I've rolled the edge on once already. Changed the profile a little and its now a decent working knife.

Btw, the Boker is purty regardless of the scale material ;)
