I received an absolute monster of a knife today. It's another knife I caught on the 'Bay. I don't know how to post pics, so I'll just post a link, there are a couple of okay pics. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280094541059

The knife is mint from what I can tell. Pictures do not really do it justice, at 4.25" closed this knife is the largest slipjoint I've owned, much less seen. It dwarfs my other Eye Brand knife, a 3.5" stockman, and puts to shame my current carry, a 3 7/8" bone handled Boker. I was excited when I won this knife, but to be honest I didn't really know what I was getting into. This stockman is a handful.

Does anyone carry big slipjoints, and if so do you have any tips for carrying these monsters?

That size is pretty typical for a large stockman pattern. Its not really a monster, but its about as big as you'd want to carry in your pocket. Square bolsters might make it a bit more noticeable too. I have a Case stockman that is 4 3/8" with round bolsters, and although it sits fairly well in the pocket I wouldn't want anything heaver. As far as slipjoints go, there are quite a few larger than 4 1/4". Most large folding hunters, clasp type patterns and jumbo trappers are between 4 1/2 and 6 inches long closed and are quite a bit heavier.

I love big stockmans cannot get enough of em, dont have a pic to hand of one that I own but have listed one e-bay link. this is a Schrade 858OT the largest stockman they made at 4 1/2 in. The picture is a Schrade Wostenholm I*XL stockman at 4 7/8 in.

I can comfortably carry up to a Buck 110 in my front left pocket.

The only advice I can offer is suffer with it enough that soon you don't even notice. Commit to three weeks of carrying it in your preferred pocket and believe me, you'll get comfortable with it.

I love a big knife and have mostly gotten away from carrying a clipped tactical (except for certain times). I also do not wear a belt every day so sheaths are not a good standard.

My favorite EDC is a 3 blade jumbo sowbelly by Gary Crowder and it measures in at just ender 4.5", I'll carry it in everything from light shorts to jeans. Today I'm wearing light summer shorts and carrying a 4.25" single blade.

I traded off my 3 5/8" stock, carried a 4" for years, now I carry a 4 1/4" with a 4 5/8" in my drawer of keepers. They carry well once you get used to them.

Nice score! I've got one of those and I paid a lot more than you did, that's for sure.

A 4 1/4" stockman is still quite pocketable. I've carried one in a sheath, and it doesn't seem right for some reason. I agree with others that say you'll get used to having it in your pocket. It will seem a little pocket heavy at first though.
