I've been carrying a Camillus Classic Cartridge Series CCC-2 Big Moose with me for the last few years, when I'm out woodswalking. It makes for a nice combo along with a Vic Farmer. The CCC-2's clip blade has probably the best shape for trout cleaning I've ever used, and the spey blade is great for sharpening sticks and such. The handle is nice and big for hours of comfortable use, and the massive girth makes it nearly indestructible. And awesome outdoor knife in almost every way.

While the 440a of the CCC-2 is well done, I really wish it were carbon steel. This has me looking closely at the GEC Moose patterns. Does anybody who has a CCC-2 also have a GEC #54, or one of the other patterns based on that handle shape? Is the #54 as large as the CC-2? I'm really looking for a replacement, but don't want to go down in size.

They are the same length but the CC's slabs are a hair wider. Going from memory here. The big difference is the GEC has more of a traditional big clip where the CC is a California clip that is seen more on muskrats.

The GEC has stouter springs. If you don't mind the change in the clip blade I think you would be happy with the GEC

I'm not familiar with that knife, what are the measurements?

You might want to take a look at one of the Bluegrass Winchester Moose. It has beautifully jigged bone handles and carbon steel. This knife has been discontinued, but is still available on the secondary market.
