Big Ol' Subhilt

That's a beaut, Ben! I love sub-hilts, so this is biased, but one of my favorites.

I like everything about it, except for the rough flats....sometimes they look ok, but not on this one.

Other than that, pure slickness!

Best Regards,

I commissioned this Bowie. The "rough" forged look on the flats was one of the features I liked about it. Came out just the way I was hoping. You nailed it for me Ben.

Well then, glad you got what you wanted!

Very cool! You definitely know how to get your belly & clip profiles just 'right', Ben.

I think the forged texture looks great and like the touch of darkness (or contrast) is gives to the overall look in relation to the clean, stainless fittings and "warm" Mango handle. That inlay on the sheath matches it perfectly!

Thanks for sharing

Thanks, guys. I'm kind of partial to forge finish flats...actually in some ways it's harder than clean finish because you need to get the controlled chaos even from side to side. Happily though, if forged finish doesn't float your boat I do have a grinder that removes it;)

Ben, I like everything about this piece.

Quite frequently, when Steven picks nits, I find my self in agreement. Often enough, will see a piece and something itches, but i cant quite figure out what, until Steven (or some one else voices it). I go back and forth on forged finish flats. On many pieces, I find the feature just to my liking. On some, there is some issue that I don't like (too deep, uneven, does not match the rest of the knife's other features or finish or materials), but I think the forged finish on the flats here feels right with the handle material and the sheath finish to my eyeballs. But I'm not the $$$$ in your account guy here. Just eyeballs on a phone screen, and lust in my heart.

I always like your work Ben and this one really hits it out of the park for me. I just sat and stared it a while trying to figure out why it hit me that way. After scrolling down and reading some of the comments it dawned on me. The combination of the perfect blade lines, the wood chosen for the handle, the rough flats, etc; to me just looks like the perfect country gentleman's knife. Made to be used and made by a master of his craft. Seems like Texas is a fitting place for it to be headed and one of these days i hope to have something similar headed to my part of Texas as well.
