I finished this up recently. I am gonna try to sell it to some local farmers out my way. 1070 Steel, with Bocote handles. I really like making big stuff like this.

With that sized blade you really need a long handle ! They di it in the old days !
 
Googling Antique Cleaver came up with a bunch of longer handled examples. Some of them were pretty funny looking. Any idea what the purpose was? Did folks hold them by the end of the handle for more force?
 
Two handed beef splitters.

For lopping through large pieces of meat and bone.

Cow bones are no joke!
