Big short sword or combat knife

Found this while cleaning the old mans shop, you can see by the pics its long and well made, any help with the I D?
Dad said he ordered it out of "shotgun news" 30 years ago and it was listed as a collectable.

Sheath is leather.

Numbers 297 stamped on the pommel

You know if Busse produced a Gladius with a guard and pommel similar to that, I'd buy it in a heart beat. Very nice.
