While looking for something else I found these two advertisments. These are the largest stockmen that Schrade produced the 858 OT Lumberjack was a little bit smaller than the IXL Schrade. Ithe IXL version is my favorite. It retailed for 100 even back then around 1980. the OT was 20 ( without sheath.). If memory serves the OT was around4, 5/8" and the IXL around 4,3/4" ( I should look these up before posting so that someone does not shove my guesses down my throat but what the heck I am used to being picked on ). These are great stockmen of wonderful quality but doggone the IXL version is like a disease ( with me ) rosewood scales, solid nickle silver bolsters, I buy them whenever I can. BUT REMEMBER the Lumberman is carbon and one of the biggest around. The IXL was limited to 8000 . Still because of the price and how pretty they were most you find today are still in the presentation box and pristene. I carry several styles of knives and this is one of them. If you can get over its prettyness it is a dandy user. The 858 ( as has been pointed out in various postings )is also a bit above the rest and being carbon can be used for anything and resharpened in about 5 swipes on a honesteel. LT.

I've been waiting for you to weigh in on the big stockman, LT. Thanks for doing so! Truly awesome knives. $100 was a lot for one, back then. But looks like it was worth it.

Larry, is that an IX*L that you have?

By the way, the hat you sent fits great, and trust me, I will never, ever wear it backwards, as seems to be in fashion. Something tells me you're the kinda guy that finds that ridiculous. So am I.

Best to you,

Phil

I only wear them backwards while aiming a scoped 308 while my partner requests a green light. Hairs on Middle of forehead. Otherwise since I do not breakdance on a regular basis I wear it in the usual position. QUOTE the message that was sent WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY TO TERMINATE MAX POSITIVE, REQUEST GREEN LIGHT. ( RECEIVED Message ) " RED LIGHT RED LIGHT DO YOU COPY DO YOU COPY?." CAPTAIN GRABS RADIO AND YELLS " RED LIGHT DAMMIT DO YOU COPY LANGSTON YOU FIRE THAT RIFLE AND I WILL MAKE SURE THEY GET YOUR PENSION WHEN THEY TAKE MINE". " DO YOU COPY? ". ( Approximate conversation while on mission NYS D.O.C.S C.E.R.T ( Correction emergency response team,) ( when my hat was on backwards preferred ready shooting position for sniper response. )

Message was a point of humor while comsuming various alcoholic beverages at errr call it debriefing, by my fellow team members. Since then i wear this article in the brim forward position. LT

In the same playful mood...

Here I am 'hunting the house'. Marguerita drinking shirt, Schrade hat, Marlin Camp 9mm Carbine with 4X scope, laser sight, a 12 round magazine filled with Black Talon Ammo.

The I*XL and the 858OT for comparison
The 858 is 4 5/8 the I*XL is 4 7/8 (by my ruler)
Hope this helps in some way. Both are "something"!

Phil,
Where you waiting for something to dart across that hall like at the carnie's?

Later
Larry
P.S. The only thing backwards in my post was the 858OT..

Needed quieter shirt. More actual margaritas, Larger magazine. Some guys like more power for there tools I like more fire power. Of course in my house there is only Buster D Cat. Who I sleep with he is a neutered male so now that I think of it what does that make me I mean he is an animal ( a cat ) and a male. Oh well I guess I have become a liberal left winger I guess I am out of the closet or in this case the cat box. Any way in my case my best bet is not to pick up a gun. Although I certainly can choose from a varied assortment. My targets are limited in my house and since I like Buster better than myself ( he has better qualitys ) . That even further limits my targets. You know what I want for Christmas ( a burglar ). Yup some one with no good on there minds that I can rehabilitate. I guess my biggest problem would be deciding on knife, gun, or just some place to test the 3 hours a week I spend just on the heavy bag at the gym. AHHH VENTING VENTING. I like the heavy bag I see visions when I hit it and they are not of sugarplums. Gather round it is getting close to Christmas it is the lovliest nightmare of the year. As friend of mine says this getting old is rough it sure isn't for wimps old folks are the real heros the real tough guys. They know about when life was good and still choose to stay in the game. The golden years should be renamed and another substance should be substituted for gold , a brown excreted substance. LT PS This is not sour grapes it is just the way it is. Frankly if I ever did pray again it would be for our people in harms way. It is there world and there time I truly wish it was me instead of them. Ah it must be the yule season when I sometimes drift from the subject of Schrade knives. And to all a good night.
