This forum is a PLEASURE to read. The users are not only friendly, knowledgeable, and interesting, but also .....ABLE TO DISCERN SATIRE.

Boy, try some ...kidding... AT ALL on one of the gun forums and sure as shootin (pun intended) ....SOME clown will take offense or think it's serious UNLESS you LABEL it "satire." (an then I think some believe that to be the day before Sunday)

So, pat yourselves deservedly on the back and PRAY that some of the gun posters don't reflect MANY of the gun owners.

But seriously, I know what you mean! Try posting something with the slightest touch of sarcasm or irony on a gun board and sometimes you get bombarded before you can even explain you were joking.
 
There's a few in here you obviously haven't run into yet, and with any luck you wont. You guys know who you are. :p ;)
 
Many times I have read posts and immediately realized that the post was in jest, then watched the hordes of humorless cut the poster a new body opening. People that can not recognize satire abound everywhere, and BladeForums is no exception.
 
Have you ever considered that they're Gunnutz because they're paranoid and anti-social and that all they can think about is hurting or killing people. :D
 
I think that you will find that many of the same people post on gun/knife boards.Some boards are just by nature more hostile than others.

I READ alot on both types and POST very little on any of them.There is almost always a clique on every board that are eager to trounce on a "newbie" or someone who's views/sense of humor differs from theirs.Particularly if they don't have post counts in the thousands( I don't personally view this as any type of credential). Since vocal inflection and physical posturing obviously can't be used to indicate intent, if you are concerned about angering people use those smilies :) .

There is a very good example in this very thread where forgetting to use a smilie would have caused the post to positively be construed as combative and an insult to all who post on gun boards.Sometimes people are just fishing for a fight and maybe that was the intent :rolleyes: ,but if you take the internet or it's constituents too seriously you are headed for trouble.

One thing is a given though, and that is that people will always type/say/imply things anonymously that they wouldn't say to your face.

TT: How true you are. I am a member of aprox 427 boards (exaggeration intended) and have never been as impressed as the people on this board.

I have been a member for years and this was my first forum/board to join and it has been the most helpful, enoucraging and respectful group of people. Thank you to all who contribute.

PhiLl: You have it exactly right - a littel anti-social and paranoia is an appropriate diagnosis with some of those people. Not that we don't have our own group of crazies...it just seems the ratio is much lower here.
