My grandma said she thought my little knife obsession was "cute", so she was going to do something really special for my first Father's Day this year. I was so excited! Dreams of a new Sebe, maybe the My Tighe I have been drooling over...well it arrived today....in a BIG box.....from HSN!   Yes, my dear ol' Grandma bought me a dealer set of knives from those great folks at Frost Cutlery. My question now is what in the heck do I do with them??!! I can't return them because she paid with her credit card and HSN would have to credit it back to her credit card...I am not that big of a jerk. Still I have 144 high quality tactical folders made from the finest rostfrie surgical steel around, along with various bowies and a sword that looks like a large letter opener. I wouldn't even dream of giving these things as gifts to friends for b'days, xmas, etc. I would be embarassed.  Anybody out there looking for a good deal on some great knives that are sure to last a lifetime? Hmm...wonder if I could get good at throwing a folder with plastic handles....

go to a flea market and try to sell them off and get something back in the pocket?

what are you looking for? I can always use them for parts.

Actually, that's a great idea, if its legal for you to sell them in your community. Those HSN thingys always say "That's less than $2 a knife!!" Well, yeah, so maybe you could sell themreally cheep? Use the money to get the knife you DO want?

What would you explain to your grandmother though?

Good luck.

I'd just keep them. I think your Grandma will be tickled if she ever sees you using one. You know the old sayings. "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth" and "It's the thought that counts". In your case, I think these saying are especially true. Knives will come and go. However, when a grandma goes, she doesn't come back... :(

So just hold off until then, THEN sell them!

Sorry I literally just couldn't resist that.......

You might want to consider selling them.. If it were me, the last thing I would want to hear, every time I wanted to buy a new knife, is ".. why do you want to buy that knife, you already have those 144 knives that your grandmother gave you??.."

One word; shovel. Go out in the woods and bury them. No self respecting knife lover would let their conscience sell that crap to another human being. But, keep one around to show your Grandma in case she asks about them.

My wife did the same thing for me a couple years ago. I tried to be nice about it. Then I showed her the fit & finish of a few of them and the edges. A couple even had rust in some spots! She agreed that they should go back. The box was so heavy it cost almost $40.00 to ship back for credit!

She's learned since and a year later bought me a scrimshawed custom from Gil Hibben (not one of his goofy United fantasy knives) at a show we went to.
