Hi,
I just picked up a Buck Mini-Strider partialy-serrated tanto (881tx).
I love this thing, but I'm having a few problems with it...

First of all there is way too much blade play, the only thing that keeps it from wobbling is when the liner lock is engaged and even then it still shifts from side to side. This is especially odd on this knife, the most solid looking one I may have ever held.

Secondly, the blade touches the liner upon closing. Looks like there are already a few minor scratches in the finish where this contact occurs.

Thirdly, the liner lock is ridiculously hard to release. I have pretty strong hands and a bunch of knives alot bigger than this one and they are all easier to release (even the frame locks). I'm all for a secure lock, but this just seems like something is wrong.

There are also a few other issues:
There is a like a small separation between the G10 scale and the titanium liner for a run of about 3/4 of an inch on the tip end clip side clear through to the other side. On that same side there is also a very small space between the washer and the blade, out of symmetry with the other side. Also on that same side the lanyard hole is not punched through all the way. And to top it off, the clip came with a small scratch on it.
All of this on a brand new knife just bougt today.

I really love this knife but I think I got a lemon!

It was the last one left at the store bought it from (Mass Bay Co.), so I'm wondering If I shouldn't return it directly to Buck?
Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks guys, I should have just visied the Buck website. Pretty amazing & relaxed warranty policy they have! BTW, what's the real story? Has the Strider folder really been discontinued?

You might have the version 1 of this model. We re-designned it to get rid of all the things you describe. You can tell if it is version 2 by the tip of the liner being discolored from our flame-treaing process.

no, i think it's a version 2. the liner tip is bluish. i cleaned it up a bit, and it is awesome. still a little blade play, but what a beast. my wife says it's easily her favorite.

still debating whether to send it in or not.

Trust us, many of us have sent knives back for repair, or upgrades. Buck will fix it!!

There was one instance a long while back where some guy just went on and on about how bad his knife was. Don't remember what kind. For what ever reason, he wouldn't send it in. Everyone finally told him to put up or shut up. He finally sent it off and profusley apologized after it came back. He said it was the same knife, but looked virtually new and functioned flawlessly.

Point is, Buck will make it right for you one way or another.

I'm just updating this post with belated good news.
I've dealt with some great companies over the years, but I have never had quicker, easier, more unconditional and personable service like I just had with Buck. I was expecting the typical "big company = big excuses" experience, but I was really shocked.

I remember my Dad taking me to I. Goldberg Army and Navy in Philadelphia about 25 years ago to replace my lost SAK. Something drew me to the simple, streamlined ivory Buck 110. My dad saw me drooling and said something like "Oh, you like the Buck. You know, you can't just lose this one, that's a quality tool", he looked serious but I was up for the challenge.

It's nice to know that a few good things haven't changed.
Thanks Buck.
