OK I am looking at the Military and the Police 3 with G10 handles i want a 4" blade. Do any of you guys carry and actually use these models. I am worried about the thinness of the blades. A guy at work said he chipped his edge a couple times on the military. These are listed as duty carry knives so let me know what you guys have put them through. Also picked up the Resilience at Basspro it felt like a good knife even though it was china made is it worth the 75.00 or just double the price and get one of the other Spyders. thanks

The thinness of the both blades can be an issue sometimes... Have you considered the Manix XL?

I rotate a milli in my work carry. I use it when I need a laser slicer working on ladders and cluster f's. But I carry a beater for abuse and filthy work. I mostly avoid jabbing the tip Into hard objects.

I own both the Police3 and a few Military models. The Police is a wonder to hold but in actual use the blade shape of the Military is much more useful. The tip is stouter on the Police, but using the belly of the blade on the Millie keeps me from using the delicate tip for things I shouldn't. I'd go Military for EDC use, the handle is more comfortable to me as well.

I'm not sure this would affect you, but you may want to consider that the Police 3 has a 4 3/8" blade versus the 4" on the Military. Depending on your locality and whether you plan to EDC it around, it could be the difference between a legal and illegal knife.

I don't have a police 3.. but between my Millie and edc.. I grab for my Manix XL.
I'm construction and never know what I might get into..
If I had to pound my knife thru a 2x4, using a rock to beat it thru.. the Manix XL is what I would want in my hand! (I wouldn't ever do that at work!)
I've found the grip more controlled and less likely to come free of grip, under heavy use, sweaty hands, gloves on, etc..

I don't use either of those and cannot speak to that. If you want a stout blade and are willing to drop down to 3.5" blade find a superleaf. Or the tatanka.

I have posted these pics before, but here they are again.

That was over a year ago. It's still going strong after being used hard as my work knife. (Machine operator splitting granite at a gravel mine)

As to your friend's knife chipping. That can happen when an edge hits something hard.

It will sharpen out someday. It doesn't stop the knife from cutting.

I supose it might hang up slicing phone book paper, but I don't use it for that.

Regardless of what knife you choose, the edge will be thin. Chipping an edge happens if you run the blade into something too hard for it to cut unless you're using a knife with a softer steel like AUS-8. Honestly, and this is just me, I'd stick with the Resilience for your hard use EDC tasks. It's a great knife, the edge is more likely to roll than chip due to steel type, and it won't break the bank to have to replace it if something really bad happens.

The Military blade looks thin and delicate but I have not read about any problems with the blade being too thin.

I have both the Police 3 G10 and the Manix XL (currently without a Military). I don't really like tip down for typical edc, which would leave a Mili out. If pocket space is an issue, the Police 3 easily gets the nod; if not, the Manix XL excels in ergo's and perceived toughness. Both are great in different areas. I'd give the Police a slight edge in food prep due to thinner blade stock, but my XL currently is sporting one of the sharpest edges I have ever had and really performs amazing in the kitchen as well.

I owned 2 different militarys didn't have a problem with either one of them and carried each one for about a year. Another big spyder to check out is the Ulize

I should recommend a D2 Military. D2 is extremely tough and known to hold an edge really well. Regarding toughness, l have tied mine to a bamboo pole and used it for Spear fishing Tilapia fish in Tibet. It has never been damaged in any way. But the Police model is very thin and there have been numerous cases of the tips easily breaking.

It's goofy looking and the specs would lead one to believe it is unimpressive, but the Pacific Salt is one great larger folder. I bought mine th making it would just go in my PFD and be forgotten, but it's gone straight into EDC.

I carried a Police3 G10 for some time, and I never had an issue with the blade being to thin. Granted, my first nice EDC was a Leek, so I learned to be careful with the tip of a pocket knife. The P3 tip is definitely more stout than the Military, but either should be plenty strong for even heavy EDC use. Having had both, I personally prefer the mid lock on the P3 to the liner lock on the Military. Both are incredibly comfortable and well-designed knives, and they are both well worth the asking price.
