Obsessed over a $300 Masakage Gyuto months ago until I finally said fuck it and bought the thing(absolutely zero regrets for the record)...now I'm eyeing a pretty little M-Custa and I'm trying my hardest to not splurge that much again

But who am I kidding I'll probably give in sooner or later.

What about you guys?

I was lucky enough to get on the HOM Arash list. Was in the right place at the right time. Had to sell a bunch of knives to pay for it. Hopefully have it in my hands soon.

My first ZT folder was an 0801 that I saw while at a gun show a few years back. I had a couple of ZT fixed blades but knew nothing about their folders or pricing, but I didn't care. It was love/lust at first sight, and I had to have it. Then, when Minuteman Watch Co. announced a blackwashed ZT0801 run here on the forum, I preordered one of those as well.

More recently, while on a hiking trip in northern Minnesota, I bought a Lester River Bushcraft SBK in a small-town shop with no real need for a bushcrafting knife and no idea what it should actually cost. Nice little A2 steel blade and bocote handle, but not something I really needed. Great souvenir, though, and eventually I'll put it to good use.

Mine was a Benchmade 51. I was in a knife store looking for a yellow mini-grip but they didn't have that color so I was looking around the store and I just decided to get it.

ZT 0550 when the first of the Gen 2's hit. I just sucked into the hype and purchased it without really being able to afford it at the time. After I got it, I realized that it was too big and bulky for my tastes, had stiff action, and hated the OEM scale. I ended up trading it for a delica and some cash.

Most of my impulse buys are cheaper knives luckily.

Opinels, Victorinox, Case, Leatherman, and especially Moras. I can't get enough Moras. I guess when something is relatively inexpensive and a great value for the money it's easy to talk myself into it.

I have a Mora in my backpack, in both cars, in the boat and more leftover than I can carry at one time.

More expensive knives take a lot bigger commitment. I have accepted that one day I will finally splurge and buy a Fallkniven F1 even though I have zero use for it. I just want to own it and resistance is futile, been in my head for years now. At this point I resist out of principle.

My biggest impulse buy for a knife was my Victorinox Huntsman way back when I was in high school. It doesn't seem like much money now, but back then $30+ was a big deal.

My biggest impulse buy ever was $150 for a hi-cri HDS flashlight. It's still my favorite flashlight and I've used it regularly for 3+ years. Totally worth it.

Ugh! It has to be the Halo V Marfione ground limited edition I bought when the V first came out. That's $800 that just sits in the safe. I really have no use for that.

On the F1, I looked at their plastic handled versions and said.... naah. Looks like just another knife. Saw one of the Fallkniven micarta handled ones and said..... I want it. But I still hesitated due to the cost. I was in the general area traveling and stopped by that particular knife store and handled it. But it took handling it to push me into the buy zone. At the time, it was my most expensive factory fixed blade. I got it. So, fulfill your dreams.

The worst impulse buys for me have happened at knife shows. When you're face to face with a maker and you really want to walk out with something it's easy to go into impulse mode.
