I was just flipping thru Ebay and came across this auction. By far the biggest Kukri I have ever seen or heard of. Person running the auction says "It is of the type normally referred to as an "Executioners Kukri", and was used for ceremonial decapitation of bullocks during the ritual feasts of the Nepalese. The prowess of the user was supposedly demonstrated by his ability to sever head from body with one clean, two-handed stroke, and the blade was accordingly forged to massive proportions."

Total weight: 5 ½ lbs, overall length: a whopping 37 ½ inches. Late 19th/early 20th century.

Auction #1441033587

Does anyone here own anything like this?

Greetings wolvesclaw. Welcome to Uncle Bill's Cantina.

If you look for something called a Janawar Katne, I believe that is what you saw on ebay. I'll let the more knowlegable people follow up on this one though.

Wolvesclaw,

I found the auction you refer to at http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewItem&item=1441033587+ . It does look like a nice janawar katne or “animal cutter.”

Some of these blades are so big that they have little practical use other than one-stroke decapitations. Many of the sacrifices in Nepal are carried out with substantially smaller blades, because that is what is around. They still usually get the job done in one stroke.

Here’s a picture of the incomparable Yangdu Martino displaying a HI janawar katne.

It looks like one may be coming up for sale from a forumite at http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum65/HTML/000942.html .

Thanks for the welcome and the information.
I have followed this site for a while and very much appreciate the knowledgable people and excellent info, especially on the care and handling of these knives.

Welcome to the Cantina Wolvesclaw.
That name doesn't mean you have taken the side of a certain "Researcher" does it?

I guess we will find out for sure after you get one khukuri, and then if you claim HIKV or not, and if you're always wanting all the Durba made khukuri's.

Thanks for the link.

Interesting khukuri. Seems a bit light for its size but accroding to John Powell they were made thinner back then.

I think the version in the picture is 8-9 LB.
