Starting on a very sad note,as of last evening,6 bikers are dead. As usual, locals are complaining about being cut off on the roads & bikers are asking to be cut a bit of slack.
Paper predicted over half-a-million will have flooded all housing & the farmer's fields will become tent-cities. Porta-johns abound everywhere.
For the most-part ,bikers are well behaved & cause fewer problems than spring-breakers. They spend a ton of money, policing & cleanup after is much less than other events.
Our bikers are aging ,principally because of bike costs. The younger ones that attend are most all riding imports. Hogs ARE high !
Beach side lots of locals stock up on necessities & stay in their subdivisiobs until Monday's mass exodus.

Bikers are here from all over the world. They ship their bikes ahead & bike haulers[ not a small business ] come from both coasts delivering them here. They leave the area & meet after for the haul back.

I ask that we be tolerant of bikers. Let them have their week in the sun with their machines, pray for their safety & bid them goodbye until Biketoberfest.

Safe,sane,sober biking !

My uncle, who loves his rice burners, has been going down there for years. I don't think he went this year, but the photos of the honeys he takes! He said that all the shop owners love the bikers because they spend money and don't mess the town up. In addition to the spring breakers, he said they don't like the Nascar fans down there either, they don't spend enough.

Last year a Great-Wall-mart of China store manager said his store did a MILLION + bike week-end . This was Not the largest store here either.

NASCAR fans don't have much to spend because the tickets have quadrupled + since the '70's. Freaking France famly have created an expensive spectator sport, 'eh ?

Haven't heard of more fatalities since Wednesday evening. Hope no more occur but not likely to happen.

Safe biking !

Haven't made it to bike week in a couple years.6 actually!
Sorry to hear about the six bikers, saw a guy on the news doing a ramp to ramp jump, just caught the corner of the landing ramp, crashed, unconscious and lifeflighted.Hope he's OK.
Yes,the France family, don't have all the facts but I'll take it to the NASCAR thread when I do. :D

Sober biking:thumbup:,

I travel I-95 in Virginia every day. You always know Bike Week is coming by the number of bikes heading south - mostly on trailers but lots riding too.

My dad is/was a regular Sturgis attendee. He no longer plans on going (been that way for a while).

Too crowded (as with many fun things/events).

As of Friday evening 12 bikers have died. Saturday & Sunday, the largest turnout days still to go.

College Spring break has started . How many kids will try to fly off the balconies? How many will; high-dive & miss the pool completely ?

Has our area become a pied-piper for potential suicides ?
Shudder,Shudder[/I]
