Hi Bill,
I was wondering is there any chance that you might be able to sell original khukuri manufacturing supplies so that someone could make repairs?
It would be great to be able to buy Himalayan epoxy, water buffalo leather and perhaps handle wood and horn blocks. Any chance that this could become a reality?
Thanks!

Conajohara that's a great idea(!), but you can get about everything you have listed online or even in some store fronts.
The online knife supply outfits have the wood and horn. The Laha or Himalayan Epoxy is available under another name and is basically the same tree pitch based product. I can't recall the product's name at the moment, but some of the guys with better memories than mine might chime in. The subject has often been discussed in the past, and I'm sure it was mentioned just a short time ago, my damned memory!:(
And the water buffalo leather can be obtained from a good leather supply house.
I think these products shipped in and sold by HI would be prohibitive cost wise and available cheaper somewhere else.

Anyway that's pretty much the reasons why other products in the past have been rejected to try and sell by HI.
Some of the guys have hit Bill up to try and get Tibeten Singing Bowls and other exotic, to us, objects.
It just isn't worth the effort for HI to try and sell much besides kukris, jolas and topis.:(
Perhaps if Bill were twenty years younger and in good health it might be a different story.
It would definitely put some more Nepalis to work.:)

I think the laha equivalent Yvsa is thinking of is maybe "cutler's resin"? Been discussed a lot anyway. Basically refined pitch with additives. Do a search and you'll find plenty on it, the ingredients can be found, and it doen't sound hard to produce. I think Pappy cooked some up once.

I've never heard of it being sold here as a formulated product though.

BTW, I wonder if the Locktite compound that needs high temp to soften would work???

That's easy - Buy a trashed edge blem, or ask Bill for one that was sent back with problems, then grind the point off and the edge off, then de-burr any burrs. Voila! Trainer.

Well, just about anything that bonds to metal would work.
I think the only reason we talk about laha & similar replacements
is a desire to stay close to the tradition the grip was designed for
when we're doing repairs or refits.

Of course you could also try the heat sensitive denture adhesive.....:D

Or.........more seriously.....
any of the high temp hot glues that bond to metal.
They stay a bit flexible to absorb impact.
Technically they might even be preferable to laha.

Lots of other glues/adhesives.
I just like the idea of some kind of hot-melt
if later disassembly is wanted; even if it gets a little messy.

There is a hot-melt arrow adhesive used to attach nocks & points.
Looks like clear yellow rosin (~1 cubic inch in a blister-pack)
but it could well be plastic.
