Hi fellas, my first post here. Been a lurker here in the past, reading and learning.

I could use your advice though before i place an ad in the exchange. This is the knife in question http://bladegallery.com/shopexd.asp?id=3896, i purchased it new from Blade Gallery in 2005, it's in as new condition having never been used or carried. I could do with some suggestions on what would be a fair asking price. it was $1125 new.

Secondly, being in the UK, if i ship outside the EU it'll have to go through customs. Any tips on how best to declare/describe it on the customs form. I know i've recieved knives described as 'camping tool' in the past without problems. So any suggestions from those of you experienced with shipping knives would be appreciated.

Also, is the exchange here my best bet, or should i maybe look for a dealer to sell on consignment?

Thanks in advance, David.

Check with Bill on how much one sells for now. Use that price as a reference for your asking price. Sell for about the same price he would. Your knife has the advantage of being available now, not next year like it would be from Bill.

Some people say declaring the knife as camping equipment is best. I always just have it declared as cutlery.

If you use a dealer, be prepared to pay a 20 to 25% consignment fee.

Well, technically it would be worth about 1250.00 in today market but with the economy being what it is ????. I am still selling But I have noticed a slow down in the sales of pronghorns. Good luck

David, have you spoken to Dan O'malley regarding your re-listing the piece on Blade Gallery?
It will only cost you a 10% fee since you originally purchased it from him and he has never failed to find me a buyer at market price.

I'm not familiar with Bill's current pricing on that model, however market value being $1125 four years ago I would expect you to now realize a small profit after paying Dan 10%. He has connections/customers you and most collectors do not have access to.

I would be surprised if you profit or even get what you initially paid listing it on the exchange forum.

Thanks everyone for your advice, and thanks Bill. It'll be a shame to let it go, it's a beautiful thing. The handle is wonderful, very 'form-fitted' feel, even in my big hands. I have things to pay for though, i'm a guitar player and that's my main focus, i have a couple of custom builds in the works that have to be payed for. Knives are more a sceondary interest to me, mainly i just really enjoy the crafstmanship.

Will talk to Dan first and see what he suggests, i've always had good dealings in the past.

Cheers, David.
