I'm having a real hard time believing that somebody ordered this knife from Bill Buxton, and then decided not to take it. Oh well, their loss is certainly my gain.
I went to Ron Duncan's Hammer In last weekend, to get some more pointers and watch REAL blacksmiths, bladesmiths and knifemakers work. I ALWAYS pick up some good tips at Hammer Ins, and I heartily recommend them.
This particular Hammer In is even more fun, in that they have sort of a mixed item raffle, to offset the costs of providing the equipment, propane, etc... They ask everybody to donate a knife related item, and then you buy raffle tickets at $1 a pop, and throw your tickets into a cup next to the item you wish to attempt to win. Then, they take all the tickets and throw them in a bucket and somebody neutral pulls one out for the winner. Well, there was all kinds of cool stuff to win, but what I most wanted to win was the Custom EDC 52100 hunter that Bill Buxton so graciously donated. Hence, I concentrated my tickets on this item. There were piles of steel, wood, chopsaw blades, etc..., but I REALLY wanted this EDC!
To make a long story short, the lucky knife Gods were watching over me, and I won the knife.
Here's a pic that Bill sent me this morning. Blade is maybe close to 4" of forged 52100, triple quenched and triple tempered. Handle slabs are black paper micarta with nickel silver pins. Bill did his usual outstanding job on this knife.
