Bill,

I just heard the breaking news on the hurricane force winds that hit Reno... are you, Yangdu and the Titanic II safe???

I imagine that you aren't online now, but give a holler when you come up for air...

...meanwhile-Prayers going out!!!

Alan

This is not the first such winds; is it Uncle Bill? It seems that I hear on the news almost every year that at least one of the wind storms is real bad. Blowing house trailers and 18 wheelers off the road or just blowing them over.

Guess it's time to go check the bushes and see if there's any windblown khuks collected there :p

Prayers sent out and here's hoping all is well at the Titanic !!

Regards and blessings
Brendan

Prayers and good wishes to all @ HI and you too, Rusty. You are right there, also.

Let us know how you survived and what damage around the area. Hope EVERYONE SAFE!

Hope that all is well,we have had bad weather in holland some time back. Always shakes you up pretty hard.
Hoping the best for you,Karels.

We survived. I went out in the worst of it to deliver Lama Jigme (more on this jungle monk later) back to his residence. Blowing dust cut visibility to about a quarter mile in some areas. I noticed a few roofs were damaged, some power lines went down, and when I got back to Titanic II there was no power so we went to the Peppermill for the evening. Seems the casinos will always have power even when the rest of the city is dark. But it's a pretty day today and I don't think anybody was killed or injured but am not sure about that.

But we are here and so is most of Reno.

Many thanks for concern!

When I was a kid, we had storm doors on the cellar, especially reinforced for tornado winds, slanted back (great for a kid to slide on) to the house.

Then, as I was growing up, some neighbors would have fall-out shelters, stocked with all sorts of neat stuff, and the neighborhood paper would talk about them.

Now, apparently, Folks should go to the nearest casino in case of tough weather.

Is this society's way of suggesting that life is a gamble?

Yesterday afternoon all highways out of Fallon - North, South, East, and West were shut down. We were shopping up there and got a motel room overnight. Think they finally let some highways open between 11 PM and Midnight - we started to hear trucks coming thru. This morning we drove the 70 miles home with no problems.

California had winds up to 65 in some area, and there was one unconfirmed report of a 143 mph gust over Donner pass.

( I've never understood why they built an "all weather highway" that wouldn't get closed, and then routed it over Donner. US 50, over Echo ( the road they built I-80 specifically to replace to avoid closures ) only gets closed a third of the times I-80 over Donner is shut down.

Government!!! - as one guy said, America is at that awkward stage: it's too late to work at from inside the sytem, and too early to shoot the SOB's! )

Maybe by January we can start giving out

LET CSEAUCESCU SHOW U.S. THE WAY!!!

bumper stickers. Hey, it's not like we haven't done it before, once!

Tonite's weather forecast 75 mph or more on Monday, over practically the whole upper half of the state.

Hey Uncle:
Forgot to ask - did you and Yangdu have a visitor from Kansas named Dorothy and her dog Toto? Just wondering! Well, I'm off to see the Wizard now. Bye.

Glad to see Reno is still there Uncle! The pix on the weather channel were pretty bad! It's been too nice out here, am wearing a tshirt in the middle of Dec! You can keep the wind but send the rain or snow.

The weather experts predicted winds of 20 to 40 and we got 80+. They are now predicting 75 for the incoming storm so I'm looking for 20 to 40. We'll survive -- I think!!
