That's one heck of a collectible custom knife.
Must be one of the most substantial Bill Moran pieces in existence.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Wow, can anyone tell me anything about this knife? A back story, date, significance of the disign. Cinquedea - five finger?

This Moran is absolutely the perfect example of a classic, highly collectible knife that would not look right except fixtured in brass, as here. Not trying to expand on another thread that's running, but this one is such an outstanding example of what was being discussed.

It's a wonderful piece. Just gotta repeat it!

Best,

Bob

Thanks Lorien, I never think to check there.

google led me there. First thing I wanted to know about was the history of the design, but the specifics of why Bill Moran made it and how he knew about it would be great to know.
I'm with Bob on that one too, definitely a perspective worth putting out there.
Really great to see this pic posted:thumbup:

Great piece. Love everything about it (even the brass;)).

Lorien, a while back there was an article in Blade on Cinquedeas and Hanford Miller. I'm almost sure that there was a reference in that article about Moran and his cinquedeas.

Dan,

Congratulations. That is one of the rarest Moran knives.

Thanks for sharing the image.

thanks for sharing, Bill said that this is his most complex piece with the most parts

That is a MOST impressive piece. Besides being an example of brass HAVING class, it is also an example of a picture not reflecting the true beauty of the knife!

Holding it must be awesome!

Thanks for showing it.

Peter

If it's the same one as featured in the June 2006 issue of Blade, it has 27 parts in the handle.

A masterpiece of knifemaking in my opinion, and proof that the saying 'brass has no class' isn't strictly true.

I have always been a fan of the Cinquedea and this one sure is pretty. Thanks for sharing. Always nice to see Moran pieces.
