I've been trying to get my hands on a copperhead by Bill Ruple for some time now. The problem was finding the right one.
I've seen some on purveyor's sites but they either were not quite what I wanted (scales, file work) or were priced outside of my comfort zone.
A couple of our fellow forum members had graciously offered theirs to me for sale but again, for one reason or another, it just wasn't the right "fit".
I talked to Bill at the Blade Show this year (as I normally would) and he didn't have a copperhead with him for sale but told me to get a hold of him and he'd try to bring one to an upcoming show if he could. Well, Bill has been going through some changes of residence and lifestyle back in TX and it's been hard to get a hold of him and I really wasn't in the mood to bug him especially in light of all the recent travail in TX.
Then a bit of serendipity. My good friend Charlie (Waynorth) posted an image of a stag copperhead by Ruple the other day here on the forum. I called Charlie and told him that if he ever decided to sell that knife, I'd love to have a chance to purchase it.
As luck would have it, Charlie was selling a handful of his Ruple's to finance some vintage knives that were singing their siren's song. (My good fortune.)
Charlie agreed to send me the Ruple and it arrived yesterday. I am thrilled.
The knife is about 3 5/8" to 3 11/16" and weighs 3 ounces.
Steel is (most likely) CPM-154.
These images are reduced versions of Charlie's scans to put the knife in proper size perspective.
Thanks Charlie, for giving me the opportunity with the knife and mostly for the friendship.
