I've been trying to get my hands on a copperhead by Bill Ruple for some time now. The problem was finding the right one.

I've seen some on purveyor's sites but they either were not quite what I wanted (scales, file work) or were priced outside of my comfort zone.

A couple of our fellow forum members had graciously offered theirs to me for sale but again, for one reason or another, it just wasn't the right "fit".

I talked to Bill at the Blade Show this year (as I normally would) and he didn't have a copperhead with him for sale but told me to get a hold of him and he'd try to bring one to an upcoming show if he could. Well, Bill has been going through some changes of residence and lifestyle back in TX and it's been hard to get a hold of him and I really wasn't in the mood to bug him especially in light of all the recent travail in TX.

Then a bit of serendipity. My good friend Charlie (Waynorth) posted an image of a stag copperhead by Ruple the other day here on the forum. I called Charlie and told him that if he ever decided to sell that knife, I'd love to have a chance to purchase it.

As luck would have it, Charlie was selling a handful of his Ruple's to finance some vintage knives that were singing their siren's song. (My good fortune.)

Charlie agreed to send me the Ruple and it arrived yesterday. I am thrilled.

The knife is about 3 5/8" to 3 11/16" and weighs 3 ounces.
Steel is (most likely) CPM-154.

These images are reduced versions of Charlie's scans to put the knife in proper size perspective.

Thanks Charlie, for giving me the opportunity with the knife and mostly for the friendship.:cool:

I think the Ruple copperhead is a classic among custom made knives. Probably my favorite of the patterns Bill makes and that one is a dandy. Good for you, Blues.

That's a beautiful knife, Elliot, and your good fortune, indeed.
I only hope that Waynorth's new acquisitions make him feel that he has luck that is just as good.

What a Beautiful Knife! Even more so...the way it came about!
Friends Helping Friends!
Just makes That Special Knife WAY MORE SPECIAL!
Charlie, Elliott...YOU GUYS ROCK!

Elliott, In my humble opinion that is one of the finest slip joints I've ever seen. Every time I see one Bill Ruple's Copperheads for sale I have to struggle with the urge to buy. I think had I seen the one you have, my struggle would be fruitless. Congratulations!

Thanks guys and girl.

It was definitely an unexpected moment when the stars just happened to be aligned.

I've no doubt that Charlie will have some beautiful gems to share with us in coming days and weeks.

Elliott,That knife is gorgeous, congrat's on that one.I think that pattern from Bill Ruple is really fantastic.

Thanks, Vince. I remember seeing one of yours a year or two back and deciding right then that I had to have one.

Congrats Elliott, That is truly a beauty. The file work is just enough to really add to the classic looks of the knife...

Elliott that baby is beautiful with a great looking grain on the stag that makes the juices flow...One day, one day I am going to sneak in and peek at Charlies chest of slipjoints..

Some photos I put together of the Ruple Copperhead I got a while back and I consider it to be one of my best. I keep this one in "The Secret Place".

What an outstanding addition to your collection Elliott. It couldn't have come from, or gone to better hands. I'm happy for you amigo. :) Carry it and enjoy that beauty.

Thanks guys!

Greg, that's a beauty. I can sure appreciate why that one has a special place!

I think you'll like the shield on this stockman I picked up a year or two back:

Yeah, that shield is a killer!! Goes good any any knife Bill whips out. Or should I say that any knife that Bill whips out is good to have.
