I'm looking to purchase a billy can to hang over a fire, does anyone know where I can buy one in the U.S. I really like the Stainless Steel Zebra Billy, but I can only find them on UK sites.

Thanks

you can make your own out of one of the large juice cans, thats what I use and it works great

The Aussies know. I'll ask some friends of mine there. It will be a bit before they answer though. They can't keep their days and nights, much less their seasons straight!

Have you checked your local army surplus? I'm using a British WWII issue nesting pot set that works like a charm (the lids can be used as frying pans or plates). Maybe the store will have american issue mess kits and the like.

I use a #10 coffee can, they're the perfect diameter for the width of my pack and my cook stove and fuel fits inside. Two work best (one for washing and one for cooking), but on short trips I only carry one. And the lip on the bottom holds just enough oil for frying if you put the can upside-down in a fire. Lightweight, cheap (free), and if one gets too dirty just throw it away.

Hope you find what you're looking for,

Making gear from odds and ends like that is great fun and the items usually work fine.

I sometimes see old stainless steel bowls and saucepans for sale at garage sales and our local recycling centre. A couple of holes drilled near the top of a stainless bowl would allow you to attach a wire.

I don't currently own a billy, but I have got a big stainless mug with a lid.
