I see in the "special runs" section of the HI website, that they have a knife labeled the "bilton". Is this kife still made and available? anyone ahve one? opinions or thoughts? it ooks like a handy little knife for ho-hum day-to day use!

I haven't seen them come along very often; but I did snag one on a DOTD in December. The one I have is 9" OAL with a 6" blade. The handle is not quite big enough around for me; so I haven't used it.

The bilton is like a full sized 18" khuk has been shrunk in half in all dimensions which for me results in a handle that feels too small. If you have small hands or want to introduce the responsibilities of using sharp tools to a child this might be a great choice.

The handle is almost exactly the same length as the one on my Pen knife; but the Pen fills my hand much better making it a better choice for me. The Pen doesn't come along real often either.

For those not familiar with the Bilton or Pen knife. http://www.himalayan-imports.com/new.html

Snow,

I see that you've already gone ahead and ordered one but to answer your question, I have one. Its a very useful blade indeeed. Its obviously not designed for chopping down trees but you'd be surprised how well it does when it comes to batoning firewood. Don't let its size and weight fool you...this thing is forged in the same manner as its 18" counterparts and can take a beating with the best of them. You won't be disappointed in your purchase.

the bilton is indeed still made and I use mine on a daily basis. I work in a professional kitchen and while everyone has their pocket knives or box cutters, I have a bilton khukuri tied to my back via my kitchen apron. it is a great little knife and laughs at tasks that make the others little folders tuck tail and run.

Thanks guys!

I ordered my very first Kukri real late at night last friday, and it hasn't even arrived yet and I'm now orering another one! VERY addicting! I could easily get myself into lot of trouble, ha ha!

I'm thinking that this bilton will be a nice little carry-it-daily knife. As before, I'll post pics when it arrives!
