What set would you pick at that price range ? Needs to be compact, and "stuff"-proof as much as possible.

:D

The Nikon Travelite series is pretty good. I have the 8x25 CF EX waterproof model. You can get them for less than 100USD (Which is a little out of your price range). If waterproofing isn't a concern, then the standard model is on sale at amazon for 69USD http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-7508-Travelite-25mm-Binoculars/dp/B000BJTNS0
I've had mine for a couple of years and really like them. I'm no optics expert, so I can't give you tech reasons, but they focus well, they give a clear, crisp image and and they are fairly light.

Something from the Meade TravelView line. I've had mine for about 10 years and they're still clear and solid.

Should come in well under $80.

I posted on another forum regarding Nikon binoculars. Many folks there were highly pleased with Leupold Yosemites, which in the 6x30 variety are in your price range. Link to Amazon: http://tinyurl.com/yfc25e4. Customer reviews are excellent.

You might be able to find the previously mention Leupold Yosemite 6x30 and Nikon Action Extreme 7x35 for under $80. Both are awesome binocs for the price. I own the Nikons but if I had to do it again, I would get the Yosemites - the Nikons are pretty heavy.
