Biometric Wallet: Would you buy it?

I came across this article today.
http://shopping.yahoo.com/articles/...rtually-indestructible-opens-with-your-touch/

Looking to start a discussion.

Personally I would not. I actually like the look of it and find the tech involved neat but I can't see myself carrying a wallet worth that much. I wonder how indestructible "virtually indestructible" is? It may be carbon fiber but there is a hinge and a lock. Also there may be a proximity sensor but if someone takes it your wallet is still gone.
What do all of you think?

Gimmick, pure and simple.
Like you said, it's got a hinge and a lock. I'd wager that a blow or two with a large rock would open that clam right up. Even if it didn't, it's still not physically anchored to anything and unless that thing is equipped with LoJack, a thief could spend all day trying out power tools on it in his basement while you cry about the $50 bill you had in there and your wife kicking your rear for losing the "...stupid wallet you just had to spend $800 on, moron". By the way, what were you doing when your wallet got stolen? Mine goes from my butt pocket to my hands and back again, and that's about it. When I change pants, it changes butt pockets. Did you leave it on the counter of Starbucks while you ran to the Escalade to get your carbon fiber Bluetooth headseat? Hand it to a vagrant to hold while you fished in your pocket for meter change? If someone's stealing my wallet they better have a gun pointed at me because I don't let just anyone near my butt pockets.
Also, your wallet looks like one of these:

:D

i can see a couple problems, though conceptually the idea may be promising.

1. a wallet isn't like a car with a club on the wheel. in other words, a car thief may bypass a car with the club, but they won't know your wallet is difficult to open and would be better off taking someone else's wallet. there is no theft deterrence.

2. presumably it runs off some sort of power source. how am i supposed to pay for my venti mocha if the battery dies? what if it malfunctions?

kinda like biometric guns. neat concept, but who wants to rely on a handgun that needs a battery to fire?

i take it back, its not promising. its stupid.

LOL. What it will do best is separate gullible people from a large chunk of money very quickly.

A determined tweaker would see this as a puzzle, entertaining to solve.

Us tweakers enjoy the challenge!

You can seperate the meth from the tweaker.... but a tweaker will always be a tweaker.

I read a review about these somewhere and the tester could barely get the thing to stay locked. Literally he was doing a two inch drop and it would pop open.

true enough.

and i'll take a tweaker any day over a hype or a duster.

I'm cool on that! I seen a duster almost shoot a friend... Almost got tactical.

i've had 3 fights with dusters, one on the freeway.

they feel no pain, smell like formaldehyde, speak in gibberish, are strong as hell, and always take off their clothes.

not many things worse than fighting with a naked, smelly, pissed off, babbling moron who is strong as f***!!!

"indestructible"? I will open it in 10 sec with a couple of hits on a concrete floor.
If it was made out of tungsten carbide with some well designed locking system then it may be worth of mentioning as of some kind of secured device, but again nothing is secure with the right tools for the job.
