Birch bark canoe, WOW!

To me that is bushcraft, not us playing with your firesteel.

But I am not giving up my recreation any time soon.

The use of spruce roots amazed me most. Also, the deadfall that killed the bear. If this video isn't fabricated, it is easily the best example of woodsmanship I've ever seen.

There are a few other videos on that site check them out. I agree Kevin with your statement about woodsmanship.

Wow! You're right! He is good with that ax. He took that big tree down in about 30 seconds! :)

Anyone interested in birch bark canoes should read John McPhee's SURVIVAL OF THE BIRCH BARK CANOE. It's very good (as in anything written by John McPhee.)

+1! A great book.

That National Film Board of Canada site is incredible. One of my all-time favorite canoe movies is there, "Waterwalker" by Bill Mason (music by Bruce Cockburn). Check it out if you like canoeing.

Stay sharp,

I'm only half way through it and I am amazed! I bet that man's hands are like a vise!

Excellent video and a great great woodsman!

Wow! That was amazing. That was one of the most fascinating videos that I've seen in a long time. That old guy is twelve years older than I am, and still doing the things he's doing. The man can swing an axe. I like how he used his tools, too. I learned a lot from that video.

Thanks, a million for posting this, valcas1. It was great.

his assistants are the brains of the outfit.;)
super.
never before witnessed the process.
been looking for this video for years
thanks so much for posting
all good:D
buzz

Bushcraft at it's finest ... nice to see the youngsters involved in the build  Thanks for sharing

Thanks a whole bunch for those links!! Was amazing to see how they built the canoes, certainly inspiring.

That guy is awesome, did you see his hands? Would like to see him sharpen those blades, and what would you give for one of those canoes?

Wow!!!! That is one of the most fascinating things I have ever seen. That kind of skill is amazing.
