AKA tuohituppi, these sheaths are made by folding birch bark strips. They are a simple, traditional way of making sheaths for Finnish puukkos.

I've been on a puukko kick lately and am interested in trying my hand at making my own. Nothing too ambitious, just a blade and handle kokemäki-style. I want to pair it up with a basic sheath, and a tuohituppi seems like just the ticket. In short, I want to replicate the setup above.

The problem is that I can't find any tutorials on how to make the sheath. Does anyone have any good how-to's with pictures?

Thanks in advance for any help.

For this woven style, I have a pdf article on making a bark quiver, which is esdsentially the same principle.

If you fancy taking a look, PM me with your email addy and I can forward it through to you.

ps. I did mine a completley different way...and it was equally as fiddly!
